* I slammed the phone down on the receiver and cussed. * "Slade Michaels, I cannot afford to replace your phone again because you broke it. Get a punching bag or something would you!" * Bernice yelled at me from her desk. I was frustrated because the cell phone company couldn't get a trace on +Jordan McCormick's phone. I had hoped they could at least tell me the last place it was used, but to no avail. Apparently if a phone has been turned off, you can no longer trace it. * Bernice! Do you know when +Vincent Gaines will be coming in? "No idea, Slade. He isn't technically an employee yet." * I kept running into dead ends and even though I didn't feel my mate was really dead, the universe sure wasn't giving me anything to believe she was alive. I hoped that maybe Vincent might have some contacts that could help. My cell phone vibrated on my desk and I reached for it sliding my finger across the screen. It was a text from Cole. They had ran into problems at Mia's and now we had 5 dead shifters on our hands. Mia being one of them. It was brought up by one of the males, that there was possibly more. What the fuck. I sent Cole a text back. We were best friends. We trained for this shit and I knew he knew what to do. Seconds later my phone vibrated again. He had sent out an alert text to all our enforcers. Soon we would have guards in place to protect mates and the town would be swamped with the best trained males. I welcomed the distraction. Hearing voices coming from the reception area, I stood to ready myself to help search when my computer pinged with an incoming e-mail. I opened it and it was from Sheriff Randy Anderson.

Slade Michaels,
I had a member from my Forensics team come out and take samples from different areas of your pickup. You were right, their was an accelerant detected in the testing. I know this probably doesn't help figure out what happened to your mate, but it does give us reason to believe that maybe this wasn't just an accident. Again I'm sorry for your loss. If there is anything else I can do for you, don't hesitate to reach out.
Sheriff Randy Anderson
I ran my hands through my hair. My eyes were burning, I've been on the phone all morning and I hadn't learned a thing. I sucked at being a detective. I clipped a radio onto my belt and and slid my gun into a holster. I didn't generally like to use my gun, but sometimes it came in handy. I heard footsteps coming up the hall. * "Hey Slade. Heard you been looking for me." * I looked up at Vincent. He looked haggard, probably almost as much as me. * Yeah, after we're finished with the hunt. I was hoping you could help me on Jordan's case. I just keep running into dead ends. I'm just not ready to give up. He nodded his agreement * "Ian, you better not get blood on my floor." * Bernice shrieked getting our attention. Vincent and I headed to the reception area of the Police station. *

I walked towards Slade’s office as he stepped into the hall. Hey Slade. Heard you been looking for me. He looked over at me and I could see he was tired and probably not getting much sleep. Just like me. But it was two very different circumstances. “Yeah, after we’re finished with the hunt. I was hoping you could help me on Jordan’s case.” It wasn’t a question but a statement and I understood. I stood there and waited for him to continue. The look on his face told me he had more to say. “I just keep running into dead ends. I’m just not ready to give up. I nodded and was about to tell him that whatever he needed I would be there for him, when we heard Bernice’s shriek. “Ian, you better not get blood on my floor.” Blood? No one said anything about any of ours being hurt. I said as Slade and I headed back to the front of the building. Ian made his way through the building, stopping in front of Slade and myself, a big fucking grin on his face. "Ian don't make me kick your butt about all that blood. I know you heard me. Did you even call the doctor? And why are you here instead of the clinic?" Bernice kept talking as Ian continued to grin. Dude, what the fuck is so funny? Your ass is bleeding all over the place. "I feel good Vinnie. It's the best I've felt since the shit hit the fan." He moved to sit on one of the chairs behind the front desk and Bernice started up again. "Ian I know you heard me. Did you call the doctor." Ian rolled his eyes and was about to answer her when Julian walked in. "There you are ian, I was just about to call your phone." Julian moved quickly, bending down to get a better look at Ian's injury. "This is going to need a few stitches if you are planning to go on the hunt with the others."
ReplyDelete* I grumbled, but I knew it was a deep cut. Bitch about had the damn knife as far in as the handle. * Alright, stitch me up Julian, but none of that numbing stuff. * My blood was pumping and I was not going to miss out on scouring the woods around town to make sure more of those assholes weren't lurking. * "I believe there is an empty room in here that you can have a seat in." Julian motioned towards a dark room. It was probably going to be an office but today it was going to be a medical room. Slade rolled an office chair in the room offering it to me and Vincent brought in a wooden chair for Julian. Julian sat right in front of me, taking a pair of scissors out of his Doctors bag, he cut a straight line down the front of my jeans. * "I hope you have an extra pair of pants." * I looked up at Slade and he smirked. * "We can probably find a pair of sweat pants." * I nodded. * Thanks. * I looked down and Julian had pulled out Betadine swabs, a circular needle and some thread. He looked up at me. * "You're sure you don't want me to numb the area?" * I thought for a second. The chair had arms on it, if I needed to I could hold on tight. I nodded to Julian. * I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteI had my truck parked behind the sheriff's department. Ian had already gone inside. I looked at the bodies in the back of my truck and cursed. I kicked the back tire and headed inside. I had to call +Beck Hadrian** the alert about the Rogues was out and enforcers were on guard with the females. As soon as I opened the back door, I could hear Bernice yelling about Ian bleeding all over the place. I walked up to her desk and tossed Mia's paperwork down. Bernice scowled at me and huffed. Yeah, it was a huge shitstorm. Mia's dead along with four Rogues. * Bernice gasped and stood up. " Are there more out there?" I nodded and she sat back down. I heard Slade and Vincent talking to Ian so, I headed towards the back. I stopped by an empty room, startled to see Julian already here. He was finishing up the stitches on Ian's leg. All good in here? * They all nodded, Ian asked for some more pants and I went to call Beck.* Hey, Slade! We ready to head back out? * I grabbed my phone and called Beck. He was going to be beyond pissed. *
ReplyDeleteI shook my head at Ian's stubbornness and got to work. I pulled out gloves, alcohol, suture kit, sterilize water, bandages and the antibiotic shot. I put it all on sterile pads. Thinking I pulled out the other syringe thinking it was better to give him the tetanus shot as well. Picking up the alcohol I looked at Vincent. Can you bring over that trash can? Vincent nodded and grabbed the trash can and sat it beside me. I picked up the alcohol then looked back at Vincent. I'm going to need your help. Pour this over my hand please. I watched as Vincent opened up the alcohol and I held my hands over the trash can as he poured.* That's enough. Shaking off the excess alcohol, I picked up one of the bigger pads and dried my hands before putting on the gloves. I picked up the water and I looked up at Ian. Try and stay as still as possible. He nodded and I placed some of the sterile pads around the wound with my free hand before I poured the water in the wound and around it. Ian grabbed the arms of the chair and I could hear the metal protest. I told you you needed a local. I dried the area before picking up the suture and got to work. I was just finishing up when Cole entered the room. "All good in here?" I looked up to see sweat on Ian's upper lip and forehead and I shook my head as the others nodded at Cole's question. I cleaned the area again then dried it before putting a bandage over it. Now all you need is the shot for infection and one for tetanus. One can never be too careful. Besides you insist on trudging through the woods to hunt. I had him pull up his sleeve and I cleaned his arm with alcohol then gave him the shots. Cleaning up I watched as they got ready to hunt. Please have anyone hurt brought to the clinic unless they are too injured to be moved. I'll be waiting to hear from you.
