* I slammed the phone down on the receiver and cussed. * "Slade Michaels, I cannot afford to replace your phone again because you broke it. Get a punching bag or something would you!" * Bernice yelled at me from her desk. I was frustrated because the cell phone company couldn't get a trace on +Jordan McCormick's phone. I had hoped they could at least tell me the last place it was used, but to no avail. Apparently if a phone has been turned off, you can no longer trace it. * Bernice! Do you know when +Vincent Gaines will be coming in? "No idea, Slade. He isn't technically an employee yet." * I kept running into dead ends and even though I didn't feel my mate was really dead, the universe sure wasn't giving me anything to believe she was alive. I hoped that maybe Vincent might have some contacts that could help. My cell phone vibrated on my desk and I reached for it sliding my finger across the screen. It was a text from Cole. They had ran into problems at Mia's and now we had 5 dead shifters on our hands. Mia being one of them. It was brought up by one of the males, that there was possibly more. What the fuck. I sent Cole a text back. We were best friends. We trained for this shit and I knew he knew what to do. Seconds later my phone vibrated again. He had sent out an alert text to all our enforcers. Soon we would have guards in place to protect mates and the town would be swamped with the best trained males. I welcomed the distraction. Hearing voices coming from the reception area, I stood to ready myself to help search when my computer pinged with an incoming e-mail. I opened it and it was from Sheriff Randy Anderson.

Slade Michaels,

I had a member from my Forensics team come out and take samples from different areas of your pickup. You were right, their was an accelerant detected in the testing. I know this probably doesn't help figure out what happened to your mate, but it does give us reason to believe that maybe this wasn't just an accident. Again I'm sorry for your loss. If there is anything else I can do for you, don't hesitate to reach out.

Sheriff Randy Anderson

I ran my hands through my hair. My eyes were burning, I've been on the phone all morning and I hadn't learned a thing. I sucked at being a detective. I clipped a radio onto my belt and and slid my gun into a holster. I didn't generally like to use my gun, but sometimes it came in handy. I heard footsteps coming up the hall. * "Hey Slade. Heard you been looking for me." * I looked up at Vincent. He looked haggard, probably almost as much as me. * Yeah, after we're finished with the hunt. I was hoping you could help me on Jordan's case. I just keep running into dead ends. I'm just not ready to give up. He nodded his agreement * "Ian, you better not get blood on my floor." * Bernice shrieked getting our attention. Vincent and I headed to the reception area of the Police station. *

  1. I walked towards Slade’s office as he stepped into the hall. Hey Slade. Heard you been looking for me. He looked over at me and I could see he was tired and probably not getting much sleep. Just like me. But it was two very different circumstances. “Yeah, after we’re finished with the hunt. I was hoping you could help me on Jordan’s case.” It wasn’t a question but a statement and I understood. I stood there and waited for him to continue. The look on his face told me he had more to say. “I just keep running into dead ends. I’m just not ready to give up. I nodded and was about to tell him that whatever he needed I would be there for him, when we heard Bernice’s shriek. “Ian, you better not get blood on my floor.” Blood? No one said anything about any of ours being hurt. I said as Slade and I headed back to the front of the building. Ian made his way through the building, stopping in front of Slade and myself, a big fucking grin on his face. "Ian don't make me kick your butt about all that blood. I know you heard me. Did you even call the doctor? And why are you here instead of the clinic?" Bernice kept talking as Ian continued to grin. Dude, what the fuck is so funny? Your ass is bleeding all over the place. "I feel good Vinnie. It's the best I've felt since the shit hit the fan." He moved to sit on one of the chairs behind the front desk and Bernice started up again. "Ian I know you heard me. Did you call the doctor." Ian rolled his eyes and was about to answer her when Julian walked in. "There you are ian, I was just about to call your phone." Julian moved quickly, bending down to get a better look at Ian's injury. "This is going to need a few stitches if you are planning to go on the hunt with the others."

  2. * I grumbled, but I knew it was a deep cut. Bitch about had the damn knife as far in as the handle. * Alright, stitch me up Julian, but none of that numbing stuff. * My blood was pumping and I was not going to miss out on scouring the woods around town to make sure more of those assholes weren't lurking. * "I believe there is an empty room in here that you can have a seat in." Julian motioned towards a dark room. It was probably going to be an office but today it was going to be a medical room. Slade rolled an office chair in the room offering it to me and Vincent brought in a wooden chair for Julian. Julian sat right in front of me, taking a pair of scissors out of his Doctors bag, he cut a straight line down the front of my jeans. * "I hope you have an extra pair of pants." * I looked up at Slade and he smirked. * "We can probably find a pair of sweat pants." * I nodded. * Thanks. * I looked down and Julian had pulled out Betadine swabs, a circular needle and some thread. He looked up at me. * "You're sure you don't want me to numb the area?" * I thought for a second. The chair had arms on it, if I needed to I could hold on tight. I nodded to Julian. * I'm sure.

  3. I had my truck parked behind the sheriff's department. Ian had already gone inside. I looked at the bodies in the back of my truck and cursed. I kicked the back tire and headed inside. I had to call +Beck Hadrian** the alert about the Rogues was out and enforcers were on guard with the females. As soon as I opened the back door, I could hear Bernice yelling about Ian bleeding all over the place. I walked up to her desk and tossed Mia's paperwork down. Bernice scowled at me and huffed. Yeah, it was a huge shitstorm. Mia's dead along with four Rogues. * Bernice gasped and stood up. " Are there more out there?" I nodded and she sat back down. I heard Slade and Vincent talking to Ian so, I headed towards the back. I stopped by an empty room, startled to see Julian already here. He was finishing up the stitches on Ian's leg. All good in here? * They all nodded, Ian asked for some more pants and I went to call Beck.* Hey, Slade! We ready to head back out? * I grabbed my phone and called Beck. He was going to be beyond pissed. *

  4. I shook my head at Ian's stubbornness and got to work. I pulled out gloves, alcohol, suture kit, sterilize water, bandages and the antibiotic shot. I put it all on sterile pads. Thinking I pulled out the other syringe thinking it was better to give him the tetanus shot as well. Picking up the alcohol I looked at Vincent. Can you bring over that trash can? Vincent nodded and grabbed the trash can and sat it beside me. I picked up the alcohol then looked back at Vincent. I'm going to need your help. Pour this over my hand please. I watched as Vincent opened up the alcohol and I held my hands over the trash can as he poured.* That's enough. Shaking off the excess alcohol, I picked up one of the bigger pads and dried my hands before putting on the gloves. I picked up the water and I looked up at Ian. Try and stay as still as possible. He nodded and I placed some of the sterile pads around the wound with my free hand before I poured the water in the wound and around it. Ian grabbed the arms of the chair and I could hear the metal protest. I told you you needed a local. I dried the area before picking up the suture and got to work. I was just finishing up when Cole entered the room. "All good in here?" I looked up to see sweat on Ian's upper lip and forehead and I shook my head as the others nodded at Cole's question. I cleaned the area again then dried it before putting a bandage over it. Now all you need is the shot for infection and one for tetanus. One can never be too careful. Besides you insist on trudging through the woods to hunt. I had him pull up his sleeve and I cleaned his arm with alcohol then gave him the shots. Cleaning up I watched as they got ready to hunt. Please have anyone hurt brought to the clinic unless they are too injured to be moved. I'll be waiting to hear from you.

* Once +Loretta Blackstone told me what she needed I got up and left. Julian handed me his car keys and +Takahiro Yanahi DPI followed me out of the conference room. I was on the verge of losing it, my baby sister was missing. Taken by a witch and I had no idea why they would even want her. The thought's going through my mind of what might be happening to her were dark. I feared for her. I hurried down the hall and burst through the front door of the police station. I needed fresh air and solitude, I knew I couldn't hold myself together much longer. * "Kimiko, yamero." {Kimiko, stop.} * I stopped, but refused to turn around, tears slid down my face and I was ashamed that I was so weak at this moment. Taka turned me gently and pulled me against his chest, slipping the car keys from my hand. Wrapping his arms around me, he let me cry. * "Watashitachiha kaiyo o mitsukerudeshou, watashi wa yakusoku shimasu." {We'll find Kaiyo, I promise."} * I wrapped my arms around his waist. His gentle voice, embrace and his scent helped to calm me. I looked into my mate's eyes. * Why would they want her, Taka? Do you think that Senichi could be behind this? * My mate seemed to think for a minute. * "You and I know Senichi best. We could guess his next move in any situation and act on it before he even had to say anything. He knows he's gonna have to do something that we would never consider. I'm not saying he is behind this, but I wouldn't be surprised if he is." * I nodded, I knew he was right. Taka kissed me. * "Let's get to the house and get what Miss Blackstone needs." * I slipped into the passenger side of Julian's car and tried to pull myself together as Taka drove us to the house. *

* Raechel Hadrian was finally sleeping as I quietly dressed and left the house. I had to deal with Mia before I dealt with the females of the pack. I was still furious, but everything with Jordan McCormick overshadowed it. I still needed to tell Mikaela Kieschnick. Maybe I'd call Damon Kieschnick first. Let him decide the best way to tell her. She'd taken to Jordan right off the bat and I think Jordan had loved Mik too. I kicked the truck engine over and rubbed my hands together. It was cold and the sky was just turning a bright orange in the eastern sky. I didn't relish the tasks ahead. I put the truck in gear and headed into town. We didn't have a large police department. It was a few offices for Slade Michaels and Cole Ross, the other enforcers were directed by them. Slade and I had talked about bringing Vincent Gaines on, but it hadn't gotten any further when we were called to help Bianca. Now that the females had pulled the stunt they did, he may not stick around long enough for me to offer him the position. We had eight holding cells, each one made with reinforced silver. They stayed empty most of the time with the exception of a drunk or two needing to sleep off their drink. I parked in the space designated for me and made my way inside. * Alpha. * Bernice ran the front desk and she greeted me with a smile. * Good morning, Bernice. * She stood up. * You look tired, sir. * She handed me the file on Mia. This was a small town, she knew why I was here. I flipped through the contents. * Its been a long two weeks. * I told her as I made sure everything was in order. * Who's running the morning shift? * I asked, closing the file. * Stretch and Monty. * They were relatively new trainees, but Slade and Cole had trained them well. * Thank you. * I nodded as I slipped past her. Stretch was working the radio system we had in place and I nodded to him as I made my way towards the basement and the holding cells. Monty guarded the door leading down. * Good morning, Alpha. * He opened the door for me. * Thank you, Monty. * He nodded in return. * Good luck with that one, Sir. * I headed down the stairs, the air growing colder. I stepped down the corridor and she was in the first cell to the left. I typed in the code and a small section of the silver bars opened, allowing me to step inside her cell. She sat up when they slammed closed. She smelled like day old booze and her make up was smeared. She stood up and made her way over to me. * Alpha Beck. * Her voice was anything but respectful. * I'd hoped you would come and see me so we could sort this misunderstanding out. * She stepped close enough to run her fingers up the arms of my jacket. She shivered. * Such big muscles. * Her eyes met mine. * Maybe we can work out a deal, hm? * Her fingertips grazed my neck and jaw and for the first time in my life, I wanted to throttle a female. I shoved the file folder between us. * For starters, seducing me will do nothing but get you killed. My mate would have your head. Secondly, we'd both suffer the mating rash. And last, I would rather be dragged behind a truck, over broken glass then continue to be this close to you. * Rage darkened her eyes. * You're a son of a bitch! * Her hand flew up to slap me and I caught her wrist. * I can be. Why don't we find out just how big of a one? * She jerked away from me. * I don't understand why you're so mad at me. Why I'm to blame. I didn't do anything wrong! * She sat on the bed in a huff. * So, you didn't steal drugs from Dr. Tukami? * She was silent. * And you didn't meet Jules and my mate to give them the drugs you didn't steal? * Her eyes snapped fire as they met mine. * Or, you did do all those things, but dont want to admit it. I find it difficult to believe that you did this for the females out of the kindness of your own heart. * I opened the file that I had. * You attempted to seduce the doctor, your boss and was fired for it. I see you lived here during O'Donnells reign of terror. Your mother left with some rogue shifter. You stayed behind with your father. * She moved from the bed. * I know my life's story. I dont need you narrating it. * She tried to snatch the folder from me. I didn't allow it. * And I dont need someone of your calibre in my pack. * That got her attention. * What do you mean? * I shrugged. * Exactly what I just said. I'm banishing you, Mia. * Tears filled her eyes. * Beck...I mean, Alpha, sir....please. * I steeled myself against her pleas. * I don't trust you. In fact, you attempted to seduce me, which means you will stop at nothing to get what you want. I have yet to determine what exactly that is. But its detrimental to my pack. And I will not allow it. * She was sobbing now. * I just wanted Julian. I just wanted him to love me! * I shook my head. * He doesn't feel the same, Mia. The last female like you caused a lot of hurt as well and she almost killed members of my pack. I cannot stand by and let this happen. I will not. You broke trust. And you crossed the line thinking you could seduce me. * She hit her knees. * Alpha, please! Give me another chance! I will stay away from Julian! I'll do anything, ANYTHING to make this right. Just please, don't banish me!! * I shook my head as I gave the signal to be let out. * You'll be escorted out tomorrow morning. You will have exactly two hours to pack and clear out your things. * She was still sobbing. * Where will I go? * I stepped out of the cell. * I don't know, Mia, nor do I care. But you won't be here. And I shouldn't have to tell you that if you attempt to come back to McGregor land, you'll be killed on the spot. * I slammed the bars closed. * I hope that you take this chance and become a better person. Perhaps find a pack that will accept you. * She hit the bars, screaming. * I don't need you or your fucking pack! I didn't act alone! And everyone knows that the only reason you won't banish the others is because of who they mated and your mate is one! * I growled. * You know nothing of what I will do. Don't push me, Mia. It's too easy for me to have you executed. And it'd be supported. * I left her screaming behind me as I made my way back upstairs. I was due to meet with Jules, Meghan and Chloe in an hour. I wanted to be done with this whole thing so I could move on. I had bigger issues to deal with and this was just pissing me off. I left Mias file for Cole to finish up and then headed to my office for round two. *

* I finished checking in at the front desk then sat down next to Caiden Bauer. I was nervous. I worried about what they would find today. I worried that Gabriel Jericho was going after Quinn Cooper. I just wanted to be tucked inside of Ama Maes bed and breakfast with Caiden. My leg bounced as anxiety pumped through my veins.
