* Gabe dropped me off at the only car sale lot in town before he headed home from the clinic. I had managed to move some of my money under the radar, mainly thanks to the Alphas friend, Troy. The polar bear was fucking slick. At least now I could buy a truck and maybe find a place to rent. I opened the door to the trailer that obviously housed the office. "Hello! Welcome to Max's Auto Sales! I'm Max." The short little balding human was already grabbing my hand and shaking it. "All you salesman seem to be named Max." I commented and he chortled out a laugh. "It rolls right off the tongue. If your name ain't Max, change it. What can I do for you today?" I rubbed the back of my neck. "I need a truck. Nothing fancy. Nothing that looks like I'm compensating. Just something to get me from point A to point B." He chuckled again and moved to the door. He held it open for me, giving me another hearty slap on the back as I stepped through. "I think I've got just the thing for you." He grabbed a set of keys from a lock box and headed down the stairs. "Wait right here." I nodded and leaned on the railing, looking out over the cars that were lined up facing the street. I heard the engine as soon as it kicked over. It rumbled as it came around the corner. It was a sleek black truck, with tinted windows and all the upgrades. He parked it almost in front of the building and climbed out, leaving it running. The interior was lit up with blue LED lights and the upholstery was a nice black leather with blue stitching. "She's got a little under a hundred thousand miles, upgraded exhaust, K and N filter upgrades, new tires and fast as lightening." I walked around the truck, liking the look of her. I nodded. "Price?" He rubbed his neck. "Listed at Twelve-six, but she's old stock, an 03, and I'd take ten-two for her." I climbed in the drivers seat. It was comfortable and everything was in mint condition. I revved the engine and liked how it sounded. "Ten-two is still high for the year, man. I mean, fourteen years old." I rubbed my chin and then squinted down the road, almost as if I would move on. "What are you suggesting?" He stuffed his hands in his pockets. "Eight-two, cash. Straight up." He nodded. "Deal." He held his hand out and we shook. I knew it would take a few weeks before the information on my purchase reached all the proper channels and my hope was to be back in Alaska, dealing with the traitors. I followed Max back inside of the office and we settled up on the truck, temporary tags, and all the paperwork. He even submitted information to get the insurance added. Three hours later, I was driving my truck up into the parking lot of Ama Mae's Bed and Breakfast. Bo had said Ama Mae owned some cabins and sometimes rented them out. That's what I wanted: a secluded cabin. No chance of running into Caiden's crazy ass cousin. The house was huge and had been converted and added onto throughout the years. I walked down the hall, the floors shining as if they had just been polished. "Hello, can I help you?" A native woman stepped out of an office. "Hey, I'm Quinn Cooper and I'm friends with Gabriel Jericho and his mate - they said I could see you about renting a cabin?" She held her hand out. "I'm Ama Mae. Follow me." She led me into a tastefully decorated office. "I only have one rental cabin available, and it needs work. Could probably use a good scrubbing and some other repairs." She opened a ledger that seemed full of rental agreements. "What is the monthly rent?" She flipped to the page. "Three-thirty. Utilities are not included." I nodded. "What kind of work does it need?" She sat down and opened her computer, her fingers flying over the keys. She had a pretty good business going for a woman without a mate backing her. "Looks like the porch needs reinforcing. Could stand a new roof. Some fresh paint. You could do a walk through and let me know what you think it needs." I nodded. "What if I did the repair work?" She leaned back in her chair. "You do the work?" I nodded again. "You do the work, and I'll buy the needed supplies and I'll cover utilities while you do the work. You into construction?" I shrugged. "Used to be. Where do I sign?" She turned back to her computer. "Let's get the agreement in black and white." I sat back. I had a truck. I'd have a roof over my head. At some point, I'd go get some clothes. It looked like I would have some time to do what was needed before I went back to Alaska to deal with that shit. For now though, Bellingham would be home. *

* I snuck over the border of Xavier's property. I leaned against a tree and peaked around for any of his goons and felt a tingle go over my skin. The sisters had finally cast my body under a protection and invisibility spell and I was grateful for that. I needed to get inside the house and find my mate. The cost was clear and I ran across the grass and leaned against the side of the house. I closed my eyes and tried to blend into the shadows when I heard talking, then Josiah came into view walking with a guard. * We got my sister back and the other three won't stand a chance, now. *_ Sister?_ I frowned as the guard replied but his voice drifted off as they got further away. * So Xavier broke the mating? * Josiah huffed and said something I couldn't quite make out. Shit. Can he break that without the serum. Even then the party has to really want it to work. I groaned and cleared my mind, so I could find Sadie. If the mating fades, then we'd just have to remate. Either way she was legally my wife. I made my way around the side of the mansion and stopped in front of a rose trellis. There was a thorny rose bush running up the side. I looked up and grinned at the balcony doors opened above me. I gripped the trellis and quickly pulled myself up and climbed to the balcony. I silently swung myself up and could hear talking and then I looked inside and nearly crumpled as my heart was ripped from my chest. Sadie's mouth was moving in a sensual kiss against Xavier's. But then she pushed away suddenly screaming in agony. She fell to her knees. * The mating allergy! It burns. It burns. I thought you negated the mating..you lie to me Xavier. You lie.

* I had driven the entire twelve hours straight to Grant County, Idaho. My eyes were gritty from lack of sleep and my beard was scratchy, but we were here. Slade Michaels and I had grabbed some coffee and breakfast at a gas station. We sat in the parking lot of the police station, waiting for Sheriff Anderson. Slade had stayed pretty quiet during the travel. The sheriff was due in at eight and it was just ten minutes to eight when I decided to head in. I stretched as I closed the door to my truck and locked it. We walked inside the small station and the front desk officer looked up. * Good morning, how I can help you fellas? * I smiled at her. * We have a meeting with Sheriff Anderson. * She nodded. * He's due in any minute. If you want to have a seat, I'll let him know you're here as soon as he gets here. * We sat down to wait. The station was small, but it ran efficiently. Phone calls were handled quickly - though most seemed to be non-emergency. Maybe they had a separate station for that. Maybe it was just a quiet town. Maybe Jordan had been in a terrible accident. * Sheriff Anderson will see you now. Go on back - it's the office straight ahead. * We thanked her as we headed past her and to the office that had "Sheriff" stenciled across frosted glass. I knocked, heard the reply and stepped inside. The office smelled like fresh brewed coffee and leather. The sheriff turned around. Wolf. He was a shifter. He held his right hand out, his left hand holding a Styrofoam cup of black coffee. * Hi, I'm Sheriff Randy Anderson. You must be Slade Michaels. * I shook my head. * I'm Beck Hadrian, this is Slade Michaels. * He apologized quickly and shook Slade's hand. * Sorry about that. Please, have a seat. * He sat behind his desk and pulled out a manilla envelope, handing it to Slade. * This is all that was left of personal belongings. We do have the bo...the remains downstairs in the morgue. Your vehicle is out back in the impound lot if you would like to see it. We do have pictures from the crime scene if you would like to see those as well. * Slade held the envelope in shaking hands. I waited for him to decide what he wanted to do next. The sheriff and I looked at each other. * Can I get you guys any coffee? * I nodded. * Thank you. * He got up to get the coffee which gave Slade some time to wrap his head around what he held. *

* I paid for our coffees and +Raechel Hadrian and I made our way to a small table to wait on our muffins. The little coffee/bake shop had opened a few months back offering specialty coffee's and small baked items. I leaned forward, both my hands circled around the mug, soaking up the warmth. * So I know that Mia, +Julian Takumi nurse stops by here every morning before work. I was thinking I could talk her out of a couple pills, you know that +Chloe Cross and +Meghan Danvers could use to knock their males out. * Raechel's eyes got real big. A waitress sat our muffins down In front of us. I glanced up at her to make sure she didn't over hear anything. She was waving at someone who was leaving and then turned back to us. * "Is there anything else I can get you ladies?" * I looked at Rae, who shook her head no. * I think we're good! * The waitress smiled and walked off. Rae leaned forward. * "Do you know, how much trouble we could all get into if...." * I shushed her. * I don't even want to think about it, but that's what they get for being so controlling. I'd be livid, if Cole tried that on me. Anyways, I think with you backing me, she'll cave and give it to me. * Rae sighed. * Okay, let's do it! * I smiled and took a bite of my muffin. The bell rang above the door and as if right on que, Mia walked in. I smiled and waved at her, I knew she'd be over once she ordered. *

* I was vacuuming when my phone chimed and vibrated in my back pocket. Turning the vacuum off, I pulled my phone out realizing I had gotten a text message from +Raechel Hadrian. So are we still on for a sneaky girls night out? +Beck Hadrian, won't be home, so I just have to have a sitter. How are the rest of you going to get out without the males stopping you? Vincent and Ian were still plotting the reopening of the bar. Without including us females. +Meghan Danvers came flying around the corner with a big smile on her face. * "So, are we really going to do this?" * Grinning, I looked down at my phone and typed in a response to Rae's text. I'm in!

* I ignored the vibrating phone in my pocket several times throughout the day, but now that Binks was coming around, I decided I'd better answer it. It was an unknown number, excusing myself I left +Beck Hadrian side and walked outside. * Hello. * A deep voice answered. * "This is Sheriff Anderson with the Grant county Sheriffs office in Idaho." * I shook my head, confused. * Idaho? "Yes, sir. Is this Slade Michaels? * I looked down the street of the small town that Mik called home. * Yes. * He cleared his throat. * "The reason I'm calling and I hate to do this over the phone, but I found your pickup at the bottom of a ravine. It was burned beyond recognition. It took me two weeks to track you down with partial information off the license plate." * I started to pace, I felt like I'd been hit in the chest and couldn't breathe. * The person driving it, my fiance. Is she okay? * The sheriff sighed. * "I was hoping you would tell me it was stolen or something. I'm sorry sir, the fire burned so hot, it burned up half a mountain side. There were remains of a petite young adult. But she's burned so badly the coroner couldn't identify her by tissue sample, fingerprints or dentures. We did find a diamond ring, but it's in pretty bad shape. I tried to clean it up a bit, I could send pictures if you want?" * My heart felt like it was going to explode inside my chest. It couldn't be +Jordan McCormick * "Sir, did you wan't me to...." * My voice was raspy. * Yes, send the pictures. * I pulled the phone away from my ear and waited for the incoming text. The first was of the pickup, I couldn't recognize the color, but it was the same model as mine. I sunk down on my haunches, my other hand fisted in my hair as I waited for the next picture. It was of the mountain side. The whole thing, just scorched. The third was of a diamond ring that kind of resembled what I had given to Jordan, but I knew it was hers. * "Sir." * Tears, began to fall down my cheeks. I ignored the voice on the phone. She was gone, Jordan was really gone. Dropping the phone, I took off running. I heard Beck yell my name. Leaping into the air, my clothes shredded as I changed into my wolf and landed on all fours. I ran until I reached the top of a hill at the edge of town. Throwing my head back, I howled. The sound deafening, heartbreaking. The sound that a wolf would make when he loses the only person he was meant to love and spend his life with. *

* The sun was bright as it crested through the trees and over the swamp. I watched it rise as I laid immobile on the bed. My head hurt terribly - I could remember nothing - and what I could remember were only pieces to a much larger puzzle. My panther was agitated and I could feel her under my skin. Something had happened last night. The broken wardrobe was proof of that. Where was Severina? Mamere? I pushed up and the room spun. I held my head between my hands, sucking in air to keep from vomiting. I had to get out of here. Something wasn't right. Nothing was right. My bare feet hit the wood floor and I stood, making my way on shaking legs to get clothes. I managed to pull on jeans and a flannel shirt. Slipping my feet into sneakers, I tried the bedroom door. It was unlocked. I slipped into the hall way and made my way to the double doors. They were open and a beautiful morning breeze slipped through them. I hesitated, listening. There was movement downstairs, but nothing to indicate anyone was upstairs. I wanted to see if Severina was in her room, but at the same time, I knew I needed to leave. Now. I moved through the open doors and onto the balcony. The stairs were steep and my pulse pounded in my throat. If I got through this without being sick, it was going to be miracle. I swallowed and pushed away from the door. I took one step at a time, slowly moving down them. I kept my eyes on the swamp line as I moved down the stairs, my head starting to pound harder as I did. My feet hit the grass and I breathed a sigh of relief. I walked slow, taking my time, fighting the pain that tried to keep me back. * HEY! * I didn't look to see who had spotted me, I just bolted. I ran hard, not even really sure where I was going. I flew into the woods, avoiding the water. They'd catch me there. Sticks snapped and branches swiped across my face as I ran. An exposed root tripped me, and I stumbled, falling through a spider web. Undaunted, I scrambled up and ran. I could hear shouts and the pounding of feet as men followed suit. * Ya'll bring me dat girl! * Xavier bellowed, his voice sounding close. The woods grew more dark and the air grew thick. My breath wheezed out. A saw a shadow out of the corner of my eye a second before it tackled me. We hit hard and tumbled. I managed to get away from him, half crawling to do so. I started to sink. The shadow was a man with dark skin, his hair long as his face looked up into mine. His eyes were milky white. I struggled as the mud sucked me down further. * Oh God! * I cried out, knowing I would suffocate. * Help me! * I screamed at him, my hands reaching towards him. * Now mon cher wants help from ol' Josiah? * My waist became engulfed. I tried a different tactic. * Please, I don't want to die. * I begged. I could hear people coming. * Please? Don't let me die! * The mud was thick and cold as I sank further down, each movement the culprit. God only knew what was in this mud. Panic bubbled up inside of my chest. * PLEASE! * I screamed, struggling to reach solid ground. I lost a shoe and the mud was up to my breasts. * You learn nothing from your ancestors. * The man laughed. * Many a panther has died in mud pits just like this. * Xavier came into the clearing. His eyes took in my precarious position. * How did she break dat barrier? * Josiah's dead eyes looked at Xavier. * She's stronger than I thought. And the sisters. Those damn sisters. * He growled. Xavier looked at me again. * What a mess, pussycat. * I was going to suffocate. And he was going to watch. My eyes never left his. * Trow da line. * He jerked his chin toward the man next to him. The man stepped forward and swung the rope like a lasso. The mud engulfed my neck. I felt something slap over my head painfully. My lip hurt and I could taste blood. The noose tightened. There was a tug and I gagged despite my body shifting up out of the mud. The area was silent as I was drug from the pit. My mud covered fingers tore at the rough fibers of the rope in an attempt to gain relief from it. I gasped but no words came out. * Sorry 'bout dis. Its the only way. * Xaviers eyes shown with his alligator. He was enjoying this. * Josiah...you do dat thing you do. Stronger dis time. * I heard a voice, deep and dark. It slithered against my skin like the scales of a snake. I struggled as I was pulled from the mud, choking. The darkness was like a cloud, engulfing me. I clamped my mouth shut but I felt it slip through my nostrils. It tasted like ash as it spread through me and I slipped into unconsciousness. *

* I had two pies baked, one apple one pumkin. I made brisket and potato salad and homemade rolls. Thomas and Raja were next door and I was waiting on Jules. I packed everything into my big picnic basket and set it on the table. I sent Beck a text, letting him know we were doing alright, then I sat down with a cup of coffee. Tyler was here, I made him breakfast. He was currently on the porch watching for Jules as he would be escorting us, just to be safe. While I waited I made a grocery list and a list of things Thomas would need for pre-k. It was amazing how he'd grown and now was time to get him started on some schooling. I smiled to myself when I heard Jules pull up and knew Tyler would let her in.*

* I drove towards Vincents place. Since Ian and Meg were staying there I figured it'd be easier just to pick them up. Jules had received a text from my sister Rea asking her to come by. So we'd parted ways in the driveway. Tyler, back to work after recovering from his wounds would be with them, so I knew they were safe.. i waved to some folks in town, amazed at the Halloween decorations being hung, pumpkins and hay bails. Our town was really thriving.

I smiled when both men walked out of the house and climbbed in.* So, are you two ready for this?

I was becoming more brutal with each passing day. At night I wept until I fell asleep. During the day I trained until I passed out from exhaustion. My body eagerly awaited each and every fight. I became numb during the battles against my opponent. If I shoved all emotions aside then how could I care about the challenger I was planning to kill? It was kill or be killed. I had first planned on escaping once I became stronger. But why in the hell would I do that now? There really was no place to go. As long as I obeyed I was given a bed and decent food, what more could a girl want who was running away and trying to hide. Believe me, at first I tired to see if I could link with my mate. First I was too weak and too far away. After I gained status with this new pack I knew there was no way in hell +Slade Michaels would accept me now that I have become a killer. Shame tried to take over my emotions but my wolf swallowed it whole and snorted in anger. With my head held high I trotted on my paws with a glare of defiance. No one was going to mess with me as long as I proved to everyone my beast was one tough bitch.
