* I drove along the winding roads like a bat out of hell. Caiden Bauer had been silent for most of the trip. I know he blamed me for Kristen Bauer being in the condition she was in, and he wasn't wrong. I was sick with worry, but I had a pack that needed me to claim them and lead them. Everything else had to wait. I almost missed the turn to the small clinic where Sebastian Monroe sat with Gracie-Lynn Jericho . I parked next to the car Sebastian had been driving. Caiden opened his door. "I want to see for myself that Grace is okay, and I'll grab Monroe." I nodded as he headed in. I didn't wait long before he marched back out with Sebastian in tow. Once they were both in the car, I squealed backwards out of the parking lot. "How is Grace?" I asked, fearing the answer. "She hasn't woken up yet. She had the bairn, named the bairn and passed out. Nurses say she's doing alright, just recovering from her ordeal. I don't know." Caiden had just finished texting who I assumed was Gina with the update. "We're on our way to put Wilson and his minions out of our misery." I stomped the gas. "Too late for that, ol' chap. I blew that place to smithereens." I slammed on the brakes in the middle of the road. "You WHAT?" I whipped my head around. "You didn't have the balls to do it. Besides, Wilson had some kind of robotic, demonic wolves. Trust me, it's for the best." I bit back my angry growl. "That wasn't your decision to make, Monroe." He shrugged. "Too little too late now, mate." I slammed the accelerator and headed back to where we had found Kristen and Grace. "I did you a favor. They took innocent women and children. You should have seen the bodies strewn about. You'll be fortunate if any of your pack survived their experiments." I wanted Monroe to just shut the fuck up. Caiden was silent for most of the conversation. "Grace shot Cantwell. In the head. He had attempted to rip Gina's head off." I closed my eyes briefly. "Was he dead?" Caiden shrugged. "I didn't hang around to find out. He took Grace and I took Gina and we left. The gun had silver bullets." I nodded. "Okay, great. So, we may have to face off with that asshole, again, and then I've got to figure out where the fuck the Talkeetna Pack is. I guess we know what we need to do, then." Monroe let out a soft snore and I wanted to strangle him. "I don't know what 'claiming your pack' entails, but let's make it quick. I want to make sure Kristen is okay." I agreed. I didn't know how long it would take to reclaim what belonged to me, but it had to be done. Once I made sure the weak and elderly were taken care of, I could concentrate on Kristen and making things right. *

  1. * I landed behind a pillar next to Caiden, looking back as the explosion sent the container rocking before it imploded. "Aye, good night you nasty devil bastard." I muttered. "Can you warn us next time you decide to blow shit up?" Quinn snapped. "Was Cantwell in there? Did you blow him up, too? Because I never got a chance to check when robo dog showed up." I shrugged. "Always assume I'm going to blow shit up. It's what I do. And if he was in there, he's not anymore." The container was burning and smoldering in front of our eyes. I ground out the cigarette. "You ready to claim your pack or do you just want to sit here and belly ache over what's been done?" Quinn stood up and I followed suit, taking in the destruction that surrounded us. I grinned at my handy work as we made our way back to the truck. Caiden took shotgun and I climbed in the back. I was ready to be back on my own case. All that work for the 'good guys' was starting to turn me soft. Make me think we were a team. I kicked my feet up as we drove out of the destruction. "It's over, Coop. You just have to get your pack to see that you aren't a weak son of a bitch." He hit the brakes so hard I flew into the back of the front seats. He turned around. "I'm not weak. There were moles in my pack; a mistake I won't make again. I trusted the command my father did just to find out they killed him. I know everyone believes the exact same thing that you do, but you're all wrong about me." The silence was heavy in the truck. I'd said it to light a fire inside of him. His mind was on the little blonde cheetah and not on his pack. He was going to have trouble regardless and I wanted him pissed when he stepped up to take over. The survivors of Wilson's pack would be trouble if he didn't lead with a heavy hand. I'd seen it so much throughout the centuries. Men like Cooper were strong mentally and physically, and there were those would attempt to take him out. I just hoped he had better people guarding his back this time. *

  2. * I drove into the forked pass. It was where my father had always held his pack meetings and I wasn't disappointed. My grandfather made good on his promise. Usually, the Alpha was chosen after a fight to death. I didn't have Donovan Wilson's body nor his head. I climbed out of the truck and made my way towards the roaring fire. Snow was falling and the pack was no more than a haphazard crowd of maybe one hundred. Women and children stood huddled around the fire and my heart clenched when I realized their mates were most likely dead. A hush fell over the crowd as I made my way to the platform. My grandfather sat proud. Caiden and Sebastian moved behind me. I stood up on the platform, hugging my grandfather. "You made it." I nodded. "We did." I faced the crowd. "Donovan Wilson has been defeated." My announcement echoed off of the walls of the mountains. "With the help of these two men and others, we defeated him. We destroyed his holding." Murmurs went through the crowd. There were young men shifters glaring as I spoke. "I know that a lot of you think that I turned my back on you; abandoned you to the enemy. That's fair to say; but having said that, I had no choice. There were those within the ranks that betrayed me. That still may betray me." I eyed out the men. "I had to regroup and get fresh eyes on the scene. Junius Cantwell, my father's beta was one of those who betrayed me. He killed my father - your Alpha. He too has been defeated and killed. I stand before you, claiming this pack as my own. If anyone wishes to object, you have your chance now." The crowd was quiet, the only sound that of the wood popping in the fire. No one stepped forward. "From this moment on, I will take any challenge towards my leadership as a threat to the pack and it's well being. I will extinguish that threat by any means necessary. We will rebuild and we will be stronger." I let that sink in. "If anyone wishes to leave the pack, again, now is your chance. Otherwise, I'm going to accept all of you and you will accept me as your Alpha." No one left, but I knew better. There would be issues; there always were when new leadership took place. "What about your Beta?" A voice called out. "How will that be decided?" I had already made up my mind about that. "My beta has to be someone I trust implicitly. Allow me to introduce you to +Caiden Bauer." I gestured to Caiden. He looked like he'd swallowed his tongue. "He's no wolf!" "That's a fucking cat!" "He can't lead us!" I let out a howl that shut them all up. "It is irrelevant what he is, he's my beta. He will be respected and he will be accepted. I'd hate to take heads, but I'm just fed up enough to do it." I nodded to let that sink in. "In the meantime, I have some other things that require my attention. Yancey Cooper will be acting in my stead as I handle the few other things. I need to secure funds for materials to rebuild and then we're going to get started." I hopped off the platform, and gestured for Caiden and Sebastian to follow me. "Come on, we're flying to Bellingham. I need to claim my mate."

  3. Shock at Quinn's words had me looking at him with surprise. I thought he hated me. I mean I did mate his ex. He continued to sprout on about if anybody wanted to challenge him, but nobody spoke up or acted like they wanted to stand up to him. Quinn was tougher than I gave him credit for. Then he motioned to me and Sebastian. " Come on, we're flying to Bellingham. I need to claim my mate. " I followed but I was still dumfounded. " Wait. Coop? Are you sure about this? I mean you and I but heads at every turn. And mate? I'm sorry to tell you this, but I mated Gina already. " Sebastian snorted and I glared. " He's not talking about her, mate. He's talking about that pretty wild cat of a cousin of yours. They dance around each other, but they got the hots for one another. " I knew that, but I refused to hear it. Kristen was young. Okay she was an adult, but I always pictured her going back to Louisiana and mating my former business associate. Seth Masterson. But I knew that wasn't true even as I thought it. Seth was too boring for Kris. So it made sense she'd pick a mess of a mate. I sighed as I let it all sink in. I looked at Quinn as we made it to his truck. " You hurt her. Beta or not. I'll kill you. Now let's go get your mate and mine. " Gina had texted that Damon had gotten Kristen stable and would heal her more after they were out of the human clinic. Quinn smirked and I returned it with a smile of my own. We'd just became a team. An unstoppable team. I'd have his back and he'd have mine. This was going to be very interesting.

* Once +Loretta Blackstone told me what she needed I got up and left. Julian handed me his car keys and +Takahiro Yanahi DPI followed me out of the conference room. I was on the verge of losing it, my baby sister was missing. Taken by a witch and I had no idea why they would even want her. The thought's going through my mind of what might be happening to her were dark. I feared for her. I hurried down the hall and burst through the front door of the police station. I needed fresh air and solitude, I knew I couldn't hold myself together much longer. * "Kimiko, yamero." {Kimiko, stop.} * I stopped, but refused to turn around, tears slid down my face and I was ashamed that I was so weak at this moment. Taka turned me gently and pulled me against his chest, slipping the car keys from my hand. Wrapping his arms around me, he let me cry. * "Watashitachiha kaiyo o mitsukerudeshou, watashi wa yakusoku shimasu." {We'll find Kaiyo, I promise."} * I wrapped my arms around his waist. His gentle voice, embrace and his scent helped to calm me. I looked into my mate's eyes. * Why would they want her, Taka? Do you think that Senichi could be behind this? * My mate seemed to think for a minute. * "You and I know Senichi best. We could guess his next move in any situation and act on it before he even had to say anything. He knows he's gonna have to do something that we would never consider. I'm not saying he is behind this, but I wouldn't be surprised if he is." * I nodded, I knew he was right. Taka kissed me. * "Let's get to the house and get what Miss Blackstone needs." * I slipped into the passenger side of Julian's car and tried to pull myself together as Taka drove us to the house. *

* Raechel Hadrian was finally sleeping as I quietly dressed and left the house. I had to deal with Mia before I dealt with the females of the pack. I was still furious, but everything with Jordan McCormick overshadowed it. I still needed to tell Mikaela Kieschnick. Maybe I'd call Damon Kieschnick first. Let him decide the best way to tell her. She'd taken to Jordan right off the bat and I think Jordan had loved Mik too. I kicked the truck engine over and rubbed my hands together. It was cold and the sky was just turning a bright orange in the eastern sky. I didn't relish the tasks ahead. I put the truck in gear and headed into town. We didn't have a large police department. It was a few offices for Slade Michaels and Cole Ross, the other enforcers were directed by them. Slade and I had talked about bringing Vincent Gaines on, but it hadn't gotten any further when we were called to help Bianca. Now that the females had pulled the stunt they did, he may not stick around long enough for me to offer him the position. We had eight holding cells, each one made with reinforced silver. They stayed empty most of the time with the exception of a drunk or two needing to sleep off their drink. I parked in the space designated for me and made my way inside. * Alpha. * Bernice ran the front desk and she greeted me with a smile. * Good morning, Bernice. * She stood up. * You look tired, sir. * She handed me the file on Mia. This was a small town, she knew why I was here. I flipped through the contents. * Its been a long two weeks. * I told her as I made sure everything was in order. * Who's running the morning shift? * I asked, closing the file. * Stretch and Monty. * They were relatively new trainees, but Slade and Cole had trained them well. * Thank you. * I nodded as I slipped past her. Stretch was working the radio system we had in place and I nodded to him as I made my way towards the basement and the holding cells. Monty guarded the door leading down. * Good morning, Alpha. * He opened the door for me. * Thank you, Monty. * He nodded in return. * Good luck with that one, Sir. * I headed down the stairs, the air growing colder. I stepped down the corridor and she was in the first cell to the left. I typed in the code and a small section of the silver bars opened, allowing me to step inside her cell. She sat up when they slammed closed. She smelled like day old booze and her make up was smeared. She stood up and made her way over to me. * Alpha Beck. * Her voice was anything but respectful. * I'd hoped you would come and see me so we could sort this misunderstanding out. * She stepped close enough to run her fingers up the arms of my jacket. She shivered. * Such big muscles. * Her eyes met mine. * Maybe we can work out a deal, hm? * Her fingertips grazed my neck and jaw and for the first time in my life, I wanted to throttle a female. I shoved the file folder between us. * For starters, seducing me will do nothing but get you killed. My mate would have your head. Secondly, we'd both suffer the mating rash. And last, I would rather be dragged behind a truck, over broken glass then continue to be this close to you. * Rage darkened her eyes. * You're a son of a bitch! * Her hand flew up to slap me and I caught her wrist. * I can be. Why don't we find out just how big of a one? * She jerked away from me. * I don't understand why you're so mad at me. Why I'm to blame. I didn't do anything wrong! * She sat on the bed in a huff. * So, you didn't steal drugs from Dr. Tukami? * She was silent. * And you didn't meet Jules and my mate to give them the drugs you didn't steal? * Her eyes snapped fire as they met mine. * Or, you did do all those things, but dont want to admit it. I find it difficult to believe that you did this for the females out of the kindness of your own heart. * I opened the file that I had. * You attempted to seduce the doctor, your boss and was fired for it. I see you lived here during O'Donnells reign of terror. Your mother left with some rogue shifter. You stayed behind with your father. * She moved from the bed. * I know my life's story. I dont need you narrating it. * She tried to snatch the folder from me. I didn't allow it. * And I dont need someone of your calibre in my pack. * That got her attention. * What do you mean? * I shrugged. * Exactly what I just said. I'm banishing you, Mia. * Tears filled her eyes. * Beck...I mean, Alpha, sir....please. * I steeled myself against her pleas. * I don't trust you. In fact, you attempted to seduce me, which means you will stop at nothing to get what you want. I have yet to determine what exactly that is. But its detrimental to my pack. And I will not allow it. * She was sobbing now. * I just wanted Julian. I just wanted him to love me! * I shook my head. * He doesn't feel the same, Mia. The last female like you caused a lot of hurt as well and she almost killed members of my pack. I cannot stand by and let this happen. I will not. You broke trust. And you crossed the line thinking you could seduce me. * She hit her knees. * Alpha, please! Give me another chance! I will stay away from Julian! I'll do anything, ANYTHING to make this right. Just please, don't banish me!! * I shook my head as I gave the signal to be let out. * You'll be escorted out tomorrow morning. You will have exactly two hours to pack and clear out your things. * She was still sobbing. * Where will I go? * I stepped out of the cell. * I don't know, Mia, nor do I care. But you won't be here. And I shouldn't have to tell you that if you attempt to come back to McGregor land, you'll be killed on the spot. * I slammed the bars closed. * I hope that you take this chance and become a better person. Perhaps find a pack that will accept you. * She hit the bars, screaming. * I don't need you or your fucking pack! I didn't act alone! And everyone knows that the only reason you won't banish the others is because of who they mated and your mate is one! * I growled. * You know nothing of what I will do. Don't push me, Mia. It's too easy for me to have you executed. And it'd be supported. * I left her screaming behind me as I made my way back upstairs. I was due to meet with Jules, Meghan and Chloe in an hour. I wanted to be done with this whole thing so I could move on. I had bigger issues to deal with and this was just pissing me off. I left Mias file for Cole to finish up and then headed to my office for round two. *

* I finished checking in at the front desk then sat down next to Caiden Bauer. I was nervous. I worried about what they would find today. I worried that Gabriel Jericho was going after Quinn Cooper. I just wanted to be tucked inside of Ama Maes bed and breakfast with Caiden. My leg bounced as anxiety pumped through my veins.
