* Nolan had flown us to Wasilla, Alaska, just outside of Talkeetna. I figured our best course of action was to check out Elijah Bennett's cabin where he and Gracie-Lynn Jericho had lived. He had worked for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough fire department, and I knew they would be looking for their missing crew member. I just wanted to start where all of this began. Donovan Wilson had chosen to pull innocents into our fight and I wasn't going to let it continue. I drove the truck in silence. Kristen Bauer hadn't spoken to me since we left Bellingham. Sebastian Monroe was a dick and I didn't care if he talked or not. He rode shotgun, scrolling on his phone. Gracie and Eli had lived next to a huge forest, but it was a bit off the beaten path, so I was surprised to see a truck parked in the driveway when I pulled up. Sebastian was immediately on alert. I could tell by the way his posture stiffened. Kristen even sat up at attention.

I could tell by the way his posture stiffened. Kristen even sat up at attention.
"I didn't expect anyone to be here." I murmured, pulling the truck I drove to a stop.
"Figures." Sebastian reached down and grabbed a gun out of a holster by his leg and clicked off the safety, racking it back. I stayed his arm.
"Hang on. Don't jump the gun." I put the truck in gear and moved to open the door. A hand landed on my shoulder.
"Be careful." It was Kristen. I nodded as I climbed out. I shut the door and slowly made my way towards the front steps. Maybe I was wrong and it belonged to Eli or Grace, even though they had a two car garage. I heard him before I saw him, catching his ankle before it connected with my jaw. I twisted my wrist and he hit the porch hard. A heard a small scream and saw an older lady come racing out of the cabin. She caught me off guard and the man landed a punch to my eye.
"Stop it! We're just here to talk!" I growled, deflecting blows from the male.
"Where's my son, bastard?" He snarled, his fangs starting to elongate. I looked towards the truck to see Sebastian leaning against it, smoking. Kristen had her face pressed to the window, watching.
"That's what I'm here to find out!" I punched him in the mouth and blood sprayed.
"Fisher!" The woman screamed, her hands covering her mouth.
"I'm not the enemy! Stop fighting me! Gracie is missing and time is running out."
That took the fight out of him then. The woman ran forward and grabbed the mans shoulders then turned to look at me.
"Who are you?"
"I'm Quinn Cooper. Alpha of the Talkeetna pack. That's Kristen, an elite tracker sent here to help find Gracie. The dude smoking is Sebastian. I don't know what he's here for, since it isn't to help me." I shouted loud enough for him to hear. I watched as he gestured to Kristen to get out of the truck.
"You said don't jump the gun." Sebastian crushed the cigarette under his boot.
"I also thought we were clear you are to back me up if I need it." I snapped.
"You didn't need it. If you can't handle one on one, we're fucked." I rolled my eyes.
"Who are you?"
"I'm Fisher Bennett and this is my wife, Carol. We're Elijah's parents. Our son is missing. The fire department called us when he missed his last two shifts. No one has seen Gracie either. I was checking out around the cabin when you showed up."
"I'll handle this." Kristen stepped up and I let her. I wasn't sure how to tell these two that their son was dead and had been dead since Grace was taken. *

  1. * When that man kicked out at Coop. I nearly busted out of the truck to go and kick that motherfucker's ass. He's lucky my guy was faster... I paused questioning the direction my thoughts were going. My guy? Aww shit...I knew I had had it bad, but Quinn could never know the truth. At least not yet, but here's the thing... Nobody kicks +Quinn Cooper 's ass but me. He's mine whether he wants to admit it or not. I didn't care. He'd know when I was ready to give in and forgive him for running out on me. I pressed my face to the window to watch as both men continued to scuffle. I glanced over at Sebastian as he looked on puffing away on his stinky ass cigarette. Wasn't he supposed to be backing Quinn up? What the fuck, was he waiting on? Then a woman stepped in between them and they all exchanged a few words, before Quinn looked over. Sebastian turned and waved me out of the truck. I suddenly wanted to hit him upside the head with something hard. Friendly bartender or not, I wanted to slap that cigarette outta his smug lips. I got out of the truck and stepped up to Sebastian. I pulled that cigarette out from between his lips and tossed it on the ground. I took the heel of my stilettos and smashed it into the ground. * You know..when you're hired to be back up. You do just that. You back him up. * He looked shocked at first then slightly amused as he looked into my eyes.* He had it covered. * I rolled my eyes and turned to make my way toward the cabin to help Coop, but turned back to Sebastian. You're an asshole. I said as I smiled sassily, lifting my foot and stomping my heel down hard on the toe of his boot. If Sebastian wasn't going to help Coop, then I'd let him know I at least had his back. Sebastian snarled and I shrugged him off. I wasn't afraid of him. I turned back to face the cabin and began the short walk toward my guy. Well....not my guy, exactly...not yet anyway. I mean I wasn't going to make it that easy for him. I stepped onto the porch and shoved Quinn. * Don't you ever leave me in the truck again. I know how to protect myself and I have you know I can probably shoot better than you. You know I'm not some sniveling girl. * Ignoring his reaction, I turned to the older couple. Quinn's stiffening shoulders told me he didn't like what I said. Tough shit. I held out my hand in greeting to the woman. I had a slight beef with the man. * Hello. I'm Kristen Bauer. * She shook my hand and introduced herself and her husband as Elijah's parents, then proceeded to ask for the second time where their son Eli was. I took the woman's hands in mine and then reached one over and took the man's. Sebastian had finally moved in behind me and Quinn. There was no easy way to say this, and Quinn looked like he would rather eat a cactus, so I took over. * We don't know how to tell you this..but your son was killed. * The woman let out a loud wail and her husband wrapped his arms around her. I continued, because their son died a hero and they needed to know that. * He was protecting his pregnant mate from Donovan Wilson's pack. They're causing turmoil throughout this region. Already took out Quinn's pack. * I motioned at Quinn. * Anyway. We're here to find +Gracie-Lynn Jericho and to take Wilson and his corrupt pack down. Her family wants her and her unborn child returned home safe to Bellingham where her siblings and mother have relocated.

  2. * The silence that came behind Kristen's announcement gave me insight to what 'heavy silence' actually meant. I wasn't comfortable with this heavy handed shit.
"But...what about us? That's our grandchild she's carrying. Our last connection to Elijah. We can't even bury him!" The woman wailed.
"I understand, Mrs. Bennett. But they've taken Gracie. We have it on good authority that she is alive, but what trauma she's experienced we don't know." Kristen handled the grieving parents like a pro. "Why don't you let us inside the cabin? Maybe we can find something to lead us to Gracie inside." The male agreed and he held his wife as they both stepped through the threshold. Cooper followed, then Kristen and I took her six, just in case the cabin was being watched. The living room was neat and spotless. There were some Christmas decorations out, but beyond that, there was nothing out of place. I moved further into the house. My nose burned from the use of a heavy astringent. I slid my pack off of my back, and pulled out a spray can. I sprayed a wide swath on the hardwood floor.
"Wait, what are you doing? What is he doing?" The wife asked.
"What are you doing, Monroe?" Cooper asked as I pulled out my light. The entire area took on an ethereal glow of green. It splattered everywhere. I clicked off the light and looked at Cooper.
"Looks like someone has tried to clean up their mess." I made my way down the small hallway to the master bedroom. It was neat and orderly. A ballerina music box sat on a vanity dresser top, next to pearl earrings and a necklace. There was a snapshot of her and a male who I assumed to be Elijah stuck into the mirror. Her smile was wide and happy. I wondered if she would ever smile like that again once this all was over. I swept the rest of the bedroom for any signs of forced entry or fighting. There was nothing. The fight never reached the bedroom. I went back out and nodded to Cooper.
"Cleared in the back. Everything went down here, in the living room."
"We've got nothing. Not a damn thing." He snapped.
Kristen had her laptop out, her fingers flying across the keys.
"We need them to call again. I can pinpoint their location that way."
    Cooper nodded.
"I think I know a way to smoke them out." I didn't like the twinkle in his eye as he traded phone numbers with the Bennett's. This was going to be interesting to say the least. *

* Once +Loretta Blackstone told me what she needed I got up and left. Julian handed me his car keys and +Takahiro Yanahi DPI followed me out of the conference room. I was on the verge of losing it, my baby sister was missing. Taken by a witch and I had no idea why they would even want her. The thought's going through my mind of what might be happening to her were dark. I feared for her. I hurried down the hall and burst through the front door of the police station. I needed fresh air and solitude, I knew I couldn't hold myself together much longer. * "Kimiko, yamero." {Kimiko, stop.} * I stopped, but refused to turn around, tears slid down my face and I was ashamed that I was so weak at this moment. Taka turned me gently and pulled me against his chest, slipping the car keys from my hand. Wrapping his arms around me, he let me cry. * "Watashitachiha kaiyo o mitsukerudeshou, watashi wa yakusoku shimasu." {We'll find Kaiyo, I promise."} * I wrapped my arms around his waist. His gentle voice, embrace and his scent helped to calm me. I looked into my mate's eyes. * Why would they want her, Taka? Do you think that Senichi could be behind this? * My mate seemed to think for a minute. * "You and I know Senichi best. We could guess his next move in any situation and act on it before he even had to say anything. He knows he's gonna have to do something that we would never consider. I'm not saying he is behind this, but I wouldn't be surprised if he is." * I nodded, I knew he was right. Taka kissed me. * "Let's get to the house and get what Miss Blackstone needs." * I slipped into the passenger side of Julian's car and tried to pull myself together as Taka drove us to the house. *

* Raechel Hadrian was finally sleeping as I quietly dressed and left the house. I had to deal with Mia before I dealt with the females of the pack. I was still furious, but everything with Jordan McCormick overshadowed it. I still needed to tell Mikaela Kieschnick. Maybe I'd call Damon Kieschnick first. Let him decide the best way to tell her. She'd taken to Jordan right off the bat and I think Jordan had loved Mik too. I kicked the truck engine over and rubbed my hands together. It was cold and the sky was just turning a bright orange in the eastern sky. I didn't relish the tasks ahead. I put the truck in gear and headed into town. We didn't have a large police department. It was a few offices for Slade Michaels and Cole Ross, the other enforcers were directed by them. Slade and I had talked about bringing Vincent Gaines on, but it hadn't gotten any further when we were called to help Bianca. Now that the females had pulled the stunt they did, he may not stick around long enough for me to offer him the position. We had eight holding cells, each one made with reinforced silver. They stayed empty most of the time with the exception of a drunk or two needing to sleep off their drink. I parked in the space designated for me and made my way inside. * Alpha. * Bernice ran the front desk and she greeted me with a smile. * Good morning, Bernice. * She stood up. * You look tired, sir. * She handed me the file on Mia. This was a small town, she knew why I was here. I flipped through the contents. * Its been a long two weeks. * I told her as I made sure everything was in order. * Who's running the morning shift? * I asked, closing the file. * Stretch and Monty. * They were relatively new trainees, but Slade and Cole had trained them well. * Thank you. * I nodded as I slipped past her. Stretch was working the radio system we had in place and I nodded to him as I made my way towards the basement and the holding cells. Monty guarded the door leading down. * Good morning, Alpha. * He opened the door for me. * Thank you, Monty. * He nodded in return. * Good luck with that one, Sir. * I headed down the stairs, the air growing colder. I stepped down the corridor and she was in the first cell to the left. I typed in the code and a small section of the silver bars opened, allowing me to step inside her cell. She sat up when they slammed closed. She smelled like day old booze and her make up was smeared. She stood up and made her way over to me. * Alpha Beck. * Her voice was anything but respectful. * I'd hoped you would come and see me so we could sort this misunderstanding out. * She stepped close enough to run her fingers up the arms of my jacket. She shivered. * Such big muscles. * Her eyes met mine. * Maybe we can work out a deal, hm? * Her fingertips grazed my neck and jaw and for the first time in my life, I wanted to throttle a female. I shoved the file folder between us. * For starters, seducing me will do nothing but get you killed. My mate would have your head. Secondly, we'd both suffer the mating rash. And last, I would rather be dragged behind a truck, over broken glass then continue to be this close to you. * Rage darkened her eyes. * You're a son of a bitch! * Her hand flew up to slap me and I caught her wrist. * I can be. Why don't we find out just how big of a one? * She jerked away from me. * I don't understand why you're so mad at me. Why I'm to blame. I didn't do anything wrong! * She sat on the bed in a huff. * So, you didn't steal drugs from Dr. Tukami? * She was silent. * And you didn't meet Jules and my mate to give them the drugs you didn't steal? * Her eyes snapped fire as they met mine. * Or, you did do all those things, but dont want to admit it. I find it difficult to believe that you did this for the females out of the kindness of your own heart. * I opened the file that I had. * You attempted to seduce the doctor, your boss and was fired for it. I see you lived here during O'Donnells reign of terror. Your mother left with some rogue shifter. You stayed behind with your father. * She moved from the bed. * I know my life's story. I dont need you narrating it. * She tried to snatch the folder from me. I didn't allow it. * And I dont need someone of your calibre in my pack. * That got her attention. * What do you mean? * I shrugged. * Exactly what I just said. I'm banishing you, Mia. * Tears filled her eyes. * Beck...I mean, Alpha, sir....please. * I steeled myself against her pleas. * I don't trust you. In fact, you attempted to seduce me, which means you will stop at nothing to get what you want. I have yet to determine what exactly that is. But its detrimental to my pack. And I will not allow it. * She was sobbing now. * I just wanted Julian. I just wanted him to love me! * I shook my head. * He doesn't feel the same, Mia. The last female like you caused a lot of hurt as well and she almost killed members of my pack. I cannot stand by and let this happen. I will not. You broke trust. And you crossed the line thinking you could seduce me. * She hit her knees. * Alpha, please! Give me another chance! I will stay away from Julian! I'll do anything, ANYTHING to make this right. Just please, don't banish me!! * I shook my head as I gave the signal to be let out. * You'll be escorted out tomorrow morning. You will have exactly two hours to pack and clear out your things. * She was still sobbing. * Where will I go? * I stepped out of the cell. * I don't know, Mia, nor do I care. But you won't be here. And I shouldn't have to tell you that if you attempt to come back to McGregor land, you'll be killed on the spot. * I slammed the bars closed. * I hope that you take this chance and become a better person. Perhaps find a pack that will accept you. * She hit the bars, screaming. * I don't need you or your fucking pack! I didn't act alone! And everyone knows that the only reason you won't banish the others is because of who they mated and your mate is one! * I growled. * You know nothing of what I will do. Don't push me, Mia. It's too easy for me to have you executed. And it'd be supported. * I left her screaming behind me as I made my way back upstairs. I was due to meet with Jules, Meghan and Chloe in an hour. I wanted to be done with this whole thing so I could move on. I had bigger issues to deal with and this was just pissing me off. I left Mias file for Cole to finish up and then headed to my office for round two. *

* I finished checking in at the front desk then sat down next to Caiden Bauer. I was nervous. I worried about what they would find today. I worried that Gabriel Jericho was going after Quinn Cooper. I just wanted to be tucked inside of Ama Maes bed and breakfast with Caiden. My leg bounced as anxiety pumped through my veins.
