* I'd woken up early to fix everyone a good breakfast. Today +Vincent Gaines and I were going to enroll Michael into school. I was more nervous than I should have been. What if the kids were mean to him? Treated him like an outcast? Kids were cruel these days. And I really didn't know any teenagers well here. But it wasn't like he was a kindergartner. He was big for a kid his age and could handle himself. Vincent must have felt my negative energy. He leaned in, kissed me behind the ear and whispered that everything was going to be fine. I smiled and nodded, soaking up as much of his positive energy as I could. Michael came down the stairs carrying the back pack and few school supplies that Tyler and I had taken him to town to get to be prepared for the day. He held his head high and I could tell he was trying to be strong, but was a little nervous too. * "You ready to go, kid?" * Vincent asked and Michael nodded. Vincent grinned slapping him on the back. * "Then let's get you enrolled in school." * The Three of us put our coats on and piled into my Range Rover. The short drive into town was quiet and I noticed out of the corner of my eye that Michael was taking in our little town. I caught Vincent watching him through the rear view mirror as he drove and I was certain I saw a sense of pride in his eyes. We pulled into the parking lot of the school, stepping out of the car the three of us looked over the large building and made our way towards the door that signified the office was just inside. We pushed the doorbell and waited, until we heard the release of the lock and walked through the door that said office. A busty redhead smiled up at us. * "How can I help you?" * We need to enroll Michael in school. * She looked at Michael and then between Vincent and myself. * "He'll be new to our school so I'll need a copy of his birth certificate." * I had hoped that we wouldn't have to answer too many questions but this wasn't going to be easy. Vincent stepped up to the counter. * "Listen, Michael just lost his family. We opened up our home to him, so he'd have a chance at a good life. He's very excited about getting enrolled." * I inwardly rolled my eyes as she hung on Vincent's every word. * "Well, why don't you have a seat and I'll talk to the Principal." * The three of us sat down as she disappeared through a door that read Principal Clarke on it. *

*A few minutes later a male followed the female out of the office. I immediately smelled the fact that he was a shifter but I had no idea what kind he was. I’d never smelled it before. I used my ability to read him, trying to figure out what he was, but I didn’t get anything. Nothing, but the fact that he was a shifter came through. I watched as the secretary took her place behind the desk once more and the male made his way over to where we were sitting. He held out his hand to me as I stood putting myself between my mate and Michael, ready to fight if needed.* “Good morning, I’m Principal Clarke! Miss Johnston explained a little bit about the situation to me. Please, why don’t you come into my office so we can see what we can do.” *I nodded still trying to figure out what he was as we followed him into his office. I looked at Chloe and could see that she too was on alert. Chloe moved in between Michael and myself, putting Michael closest to the door as we took seats. The Principal looked at us, seeing our defensive positions before he looked at me and continued.* “I understand the situation and I’m here to help but we are going to need Michael’s birth information before we can get him enrolled permanently in the school system.” *I nodded as I watched him closely.* Before we continue I want to know what are you? I can smell that you’re a shifter but I don’t recognize the scent. *He sat back in his chair and smiled.* “I’m a dragon. I don’t live in McGregor and never dealt with the old alpha. To be frank, he was a bastard and I was glad to see him and his followers taken out. I love my job and the humans don’t know what I am. I try to help the young shifters control their nature. That way no one gets hurt.” *I nodded knowing what he meant. Teen shifters sometimes acted without thinking and that could be trouble if a human child was hurt or killed. I continued to look at him as I thought about what he said.* I’m going to have to inform my alpha that you are here, but as long as you continue the way you have I don’t expect a problem. *He smiled and I could see his body relax at my words.* “Thank you! Now, as for Michael, you’re going to have to find a way to get his information. You should also think about making everything legal. It will help later when and if he wants to attend college. As for now, I can let him attend classes but if you don’t get the paperwork, he won’t be able to stay.” *Fuck, I thought it would only be a matter of just bringing him in and getting him enrolled. I nodded more to myself than Clarke.* How long do we have? “I’ll give you a week or two to get everything done. After that and he won’t be able to stay.” *Standing I nodded.* So, he can start today? “Yes!” Great, I’ll get right on it.
ReplyDelete* Michael and I both stood. * "Miss Johnston will give you an enrollment packet. I don't mind if you take it home as long as you fill out the page with parent/guardian information on it and leave it here, in case we should need to contact you." * He motioned us towards the door and I turned to walk out. Miss Johnston held out a packet of papers to me and a pen. * "The page you need is the third one in the stack." * I took the paper clip off and swiped to the page I needed, pulling it out and laying it on top. Miss Johnston handed me a clip board and Michael and I sat down in the chairs we waited in before and I began to fill out the paper. * "How will you decide what classes he will attend?" * Vincent asked. Principal Clarke spoke up. * "We'll have a counselor sit down and talk with him. Once we have his school records, together they can decide what he still needs. Today, we will just do an orientation day. We'll give him a tour of the school. Show him a list of what classes we have to offer. Pick his brain a little bit to see what he is interested in doing for the future. If you could have those papers back to us by tomorrow, that would be a big help." * I placed the pen down as I finished up the paper they asked me to fill out. Standing I handed it to Miss Johnston. I turned to Michael, feeling every bit of a nervous mom. * You have your phone, so you can call if something comes up? * He nodded, turning a little red in the face. I took another look at Principal Clarke, memorizing his features. He was probably about 6 feet tall, dark brown eyes. He was bald and had a facial hair. I'd just never met a dragon, so I was leery of him. Vincent walked up behind me placing a hand on my back to push me past Michael. * "You'll be fine, won't you Michael?" * Micheal looked at both of us. * "Thank you both, for all of this. This is where I want to be. I won't let you down." * My eyes watered and Vincent squeezed his shoulder gently. * "We'll wait outside after school to pick you up." * Michael looked around a little embarrassed. * "Something wrong, Michael?" * He looked at Vincent. * "You won't pick me up in like a Police car, right?" * Vincent smirked. * "No son, look for the Range Rover or my pickup. Have a good day." * That being said, Vincent and I left, leaving Michael for his first day of school. *
ReplyDeleteI had to practically pull Chloe from the building as she turned to watch Principal Clarke speak to Michael before they left the office and headed down the hall. “Are you sure we did the right thing by leaving him here? I mean that guy was a dragon shifter, and I’ve never seen or dealt with a dragon shifter.” She whispered the words as I opened the door and we stepped outside. I squeezed her arm gently as we made our way to the car. She knew instantly what I meant and didn’t say another word. Once we were in the vehicle, doors locked and pulling out of the parking lot, Chloe let out a breath and said. “Well, what are we going to do?” Well, I’m going to inform Beck about him. And we will keep an eye on him. I started the engine and pulled out of the parking lot. “I didn’t knew we had dragons in this area. Do you think Beck knows?” I’m not sure but but I think he would have said something if he did. But first things first. I need to find an attorney so we can make everything legal with Michael. I saw her nod from the corner of my eye. It didn’t take long before we were pulling up in front of the house and Tyler was stepping out of the shadows. I turned to Chloe as Tyler opened her door. I leaned over and kissed her gently before pulling back. You start on the paperwork and I’ll head in and talk with Beck and Slade about the Principal. I’ll also ask them if they know anyone that could help us with Michael. Tyler helped Chloe out of the seat and I watched as she headed into the house. I need to see Beck but it won’t be long. “No problem! I’ll keep her safe.” He closed the door and I backed up and turned around as I headed back into town.
