* I stopped in and picked up a couple coffee's and cinnamon rolls at the diner before I headed to the hotel to check on +Brennan Walker. I held the coffee's in one hand and put the paper bag between my teeth so I could knock on the door when it flew open. Brennan smiled at me from inside her room, my fist was still in the air ready to knock. She took the bag from my teeth. * "It's about time you got here! Come in, I have something I want to show you." * I was stunned for a couple seconds by her greeting, but followed her into the room and handed her a coffee. * Um, I brought you coffee. * She laughed and took it. * Thanks! I was up early, I couldn't sleep. So I got to work on all the information you wanted from me. * Something about her had changed since I dropped her off yesterday and this morning. Looking at the table in front of us, I noticed a paper with a drawing of a building. * Is this.... * Brennan nodded. * "This is the building the fights are held in." * She watched me as I studied it. She had tagged different area's of the building. I'd forgotten all about the coffee and rolls. * Walk me through it, don't leave anything out please.

* I sat down at the little table and took a sip of the coffee. * The warehouse is old. It looks like it was built for manufacturing but, it's in the middle of the woods so it makes no sense. Tje road and parking area are all dirt, no gravel. And the woods are thick, you have to watch for the turnoff from the main road or you'll totally miss it.
ReplyDelete* I took another sip of the coffee.* The place is run by bear shifters and a few wolf shifters. I even sensed a feline shifter but I'm not sure what role they play. There's a main door, like a garage door. That's where you enter and pay. Then there are people selling food and beer. Beyond them is the arenas. But if you go around the vendors theres a big metal door, through it is where they keep the fighters, supplies, crates of god knows what. It's cramped and dirty. And the cages the fighters are in are no bigger than some dog crates but, they are all padlocked. I think they drug the fighters to keep them quiet because when I went in, not one of them batted an eye.
* I paid close attention to detail, asked questions when I had them. She placed another paper on top of the drawing she made. * "This is a few of the member's I know that work there. These guys are bear shifters, though I know they have some wolf shifters working too.* I nodded, I was impressed with all the details she was able to give me. * "Slade?" * I looked at Brennan and sensed a little fear coming off of her. * "You're not gonna make me go back there with you, are you?" * I shook my head. * No Brennan, I'd never ask you to do that and put you in harms way. * I saw her visibly relax. * You did good Brennan. Thank you. * She smiled. * "So, will you take me to my families home now? I promise, I don't plan to leave town, so if you have any more questions, I'll be available to answer them. But I am a little anxious to see if my home is still livable." * I smirked. * Okay, but only after you eat the roll I brought you, It's from the cafe and they could seriously be in a food group all on their own.
ReplyDelete* Laughing, I reached for the bag and took out a cinnamon roll. Ot was sticky and sweet smelling of cinnamon. I took a bite and was suger heaven. I gave Slade a thumbs up as I chewed. After I swallowed, I took a drink of coffee and looked at Slade. He looked tired but in good spirits. * How is Jordan doing? Is she remembering anything? I feel bad, Slade. I wish I could have gotten to her sooner. Maybe she'd remember faster. * I took another bite and sat back in my chair.* Whoever made these needs a medal. They're wonderful.
ReplyDelete* I agree'd with her, they were amazing. * She refuses to see me, but I trust Lily and have faith that my Jordan will be back with me soon. * We both ate in silence until our cinnamon rolls were gone. Brennan finished off her coffee and washed her hands. * "So? Would you be willing to take me to my families home now." * I smirked. * Yeah, I'd be happy to take you. * She smiled at me and grabbed a key out of her backpack. Then she pocketed her room key. * Is that everything you need. * She shrugged. * "It's all I got!" * I opened her room door. * Lead the way Brennan! Let's go check out your house. * Following her out of her room, I made sure the door was locked. We took the stairs and headed out to my pickup. * "It's on the west edge of town on Canal street." * McGregor wasn't a large town so it only took about 3 minutes to get to Canal street. It had taken a minute, but I knew it was her house the second I saw it. * I remember, it's the yellow house right? * Her face lit up when it came into view. * "Yeah!" * I pulled up into the dirt drive. The grass wasn't too tall yet, but I made a mental note to have someone come by and mow it for her. We had teenagers that would mow it for a small fee. I put my pickup into park and looked at her. She had tears in her eyes. * Come on, let's look over the outside and then check out the inside. * She nodded and let herself out. Walking through the small gate of the stone fence, we walked around the whole outside of the house. The siding and paint looked a little ragged, but the foundation of the house looked to be in tact. There were no hole's, I did notice one window that was cracked, but that would be easily replaced. * I think the outside could use new siding, the porch needs to be sanded down then the whole thing repainted. * Brennan sighed. I knew she worried about the money, but we took care of our own. * Listen, I know you worry about the money. But were a pack, we take care of each other. Let us help you and then you can pay us back a little at a time. It's really no problem. * Brennan nodded and unlocked the door. She took a breath before opening the door and walking inside. *
ReplyDelete* I was nervous when I opened the door but, Slade was right behind me. The door swung open easily, which was good. I let my eyes adjust to the light and stepped inside. The hard wood floor creaked but, it always had. It was dusty, cobwebs clung to corners. I looked down at the floor and choked back some tears. My mothers hand made rug was still here, the colors were faded but, it still looked to be in good shape. Most of the furniture was gone from the living room but, the heavy oak table and chairs that had belonged to my grandmother was still there. I teared up at seeing the table. I actually thought I never would again. Slade followed me quietly as I went from room to room. The bathroom was is good shade and both bedrooms were empty. The only thing left of my youth was the pink paint on the wall in the room that had once been mine. I didn't spend a lot of time in there, instead I turned and head back towrds the kitchen to check out the screened porch and washer/dryer hook ups. I looked out over the wide backyard and crossed my arms over my chest.* I think it just needs to be cleaned. Then it'll be livable again. What do you think. Slade?
ReplyDelete* I looked under the sink in the bathroom, checking for leaky pipes. There didn't seem to be any, the toilet looked good too. I followed her through the house and once we made it to the kitchen I did the same thing. Looked at the pipes under her sink. I turned on the cold water. It took a minute, water began to trickle out and then the pipes shook a little through out the house and soon murky water was coming out. I let it run until it was clear. I smiled at Brennan. * We need to check the hot water heater. It may need to be replaced since it has set so long unused, but I think everything is good. * Brennan smiled and then sighed. * "I don't even know how to start." * I pulled my phone out and sent a text to +Raechel Hadrian. The female's were almost finished with their community service, but I knew they'd be willing even if they weren't being punished. * Don't worry, I got you covered. Just be here in a couple of hours okay? * She nodded. * "Okaaay, I figured I would hang out here, maybe open up the house and I'm sure there has to be a broom around here I could start knocking down these cobwebs." * I nodded. * Sounds good. Reinforcement's will arrive soon. * I smiled, with those four she had no idea what she was getting into. I hid my chuckle. * Make a list of things that need to be repaired if you come across anything else. I'm gonna go, but I will have one of the enforcers come by to check on you. * Brennan smiled. * "Thank you Slade." You're welcome, glad your back Brennan. * I left and headed to the Hardware store. I spoke with Frank about the window and hot water heater. He'd send a crew out this afternoon to take care of it and whatever else she might need. I thanked him and headed into the office. *
