* My old truck rattled down the dirt road leading to the warehouse. The fights were on and, much earler tonight. Rick had asked me to go with him again but, this time I insisted on driving. He laughed, but agreed. He joked about the condition of the truck and I laughed it off. Sure it was old but, it ran, it was fast and it was mine. If I was going to get +Jordan McCormick out of this place, then I had to have my own vehicle, otherwise I'd have to steal a car and cops would be involved. That was a big no. Most humans didn't know about us shifters and, they wouldn't believe me if I told them what was going on. I parked so I'd have easy access to the road, saying that my truck was so big that I'd need the room. Rick agreed and we got out. I pocketed my keys. I didn't carry a purse, it and the backpack I had with some clothes and shoes in it were behind the seat of the truck. Now, I just had to get in and get to Jordan. Rick went straight for his bookie, telling me as he stepped away to find us some seats. I nodded but watched him and the guy disappear behind closed doors. I walked around, bought a beer from one of the little stalls and meandered around, just watching the comings and goings of the so called staff. I finally headed inside where the ring was located and found a place to sit. Rick joined me a few minutes later. He seemed excited, jumpy. He leaned close and told me he had a huge bet on one of the fighters. I faked enthusiasm, wishing him luck and letting him kiss me. I tried hard not to cringe and he bought my act. Now I just had to find the right time to excuse myself and hopefully find Jordan.*

* When Jordan took the crowbar from me, I just let her have it. I wasn't going to fight her here. I led her out the side door I found and stopped her before we ran for my truck. I looked for guards, anyone with a gun but only saw shifters milling about. Some heading home already, probably after losing their money. The area was pretty clear since the action was inside. We darted across the field that served as a parking lot. Jordan stayed close to me. When we reached my truck I had us both inside in a flash.* There are clothes behind the seat, and shoes. * Jordan just scowled at me.* Suit yourself. * I started the truck and backed out. As I was looking behind me I noticed some of the men piling out of the front door, looking around. I told Jordan to duck and I causally drove out of there. It wasn't untill we were out of Darby that Jordan sat up and went for the clothes behind the seat. I said nothing. I just drove. We had several hours of road ahead of us and I dreaded going back to McGregor but, I couldn't leave Jordan there. Maybe, I'll be able to drop her off and then get out of there. I wasn't sure what to expect once we got there. *
ReplyDeleteI made sure to follow the woman closely as I held the crow bar as tight as I could. There was no way anyone was going to pry this weapon from grasp. So help the shifter that tried to stop my escape. They would regret their choice once they felt my wraith. I listened to the red haired woman and hid once I climbed into the vehicle. When we were a safe distance away and I didn't have to hide any more , my cramped body felt so damn happy when I crawled out of the tiny spot. I took a few minutes to stretch out the kinks in my arms and legs before putting on the clothes that the female told me I could have. At least they were warm even if they hung loosely on my body. Sighing as I leaned my elbow on the arm rest and stared out the passenger window. Now that I was free, there were new problems that needed to be solved. I wasn't exactly prepared for the next leg of my journey, but when the choice to get out of the place or stay and be treated like a slave was waved in front of my face, I chose to run with the stranger. My stomach growled but I didn't feel hungry. I was given a bowl of food every morning. Now why it was protesting I had no idea. I was used to one meal a day. Maybe it was all the new smells my nose was picking up that the wind carried along on our journey. The silence between us could be cut with a knife but I needed time to think just like I figured the other female was doing. After another hour of traveling silently I realized my eye lids were starting to droop. I tried to fight the urge to sleep but the rocking of the truck along the road eventually lulled me into a fitful slumber
ReplyDelete* I let Jordan sleep. I knew she had to be exhausted. I stopped at a fast food place and got us some burgers. She'd be hungry when she woke up. I drive as long as I could before pulling in to a rest stop to sleep. With the doors locked and my gun under the seat, we'd be safe. I slept fitfully, worried something would go wrong. I'd gotten a few calls and texts on my phone from Rick but, I turned it off. He was probably just mad I left him at the fights. When I woke up, Jordan was awake and eating her cold burger. I excused my self to use the restroom and wash my face, I took my keys with me. When I came back Jordan was ready to go. It wouldn't be long till we got to McGregor. *
