I was in my office checking in with my restaurant in New York. “Yeah, boss! We got the new order in and the customers really love it. I don’t know where you got the idea but it was a good one.” I listened as tony went through the details. He went on and on about this and that to the point that I wasn’t even listening. I heard a beep and looked over at my cell phone before picking it up and the message had me stiffening. Look, Tony, your doing a great job since Reese left. Just keep up the good work and I’ll be in New York next month to check on things. He said goodbye as I hung up and opened the message on my phone. I had just finished reading the message when another one came through. Typing a reply to both, I jumped up from my desk chair and went looking for *+Chloe Cross*. Chloe? She came running downstairs and looked surprised that I was speaking to her. “Yes?” Walking over to her as she came down the last step, I stood in front of her. There’s been trouble with Mia. “Is everyone alright? I know Ian and Cole were escorting her out of town.” I looked down at her wondering what to say to her. We don’t know much right now. Tyler is on his way to keep an eye on you. Don’t leave the house and don’t give him any problems. I don’t need to hear you’ve gotten into more trouble. She looked up at me and I could see the hurt in her eyes. “I won’t do anything, Vincent. I told you, I’m sorry over and over again. When are you going to believe that I’m telling the truth?” I was about to answer her when I heard a truck pulling up the driveway. Turning, I went to the window, seeing Tyler park and jump out of the truck, heading for the house. I turned back to Chloe and said. Look, that’s Tyler and I have to go. Just do what he says and I’ll be back as soon as I can.

* My fear sky rocketed but I didn't want to Vincent to know, so I reigned it in. * Vincent, be careful. Please. * He turned and looked at me. For a second I thought maybe he was going to return to me and give me a hug or say some comforting words. * "It's too bad you weren't concerned about my safety when you chose to put drugs in my drink." * I sucked in a breath. It was never our intentions to hurt them. The jab hurt, but he was right and I deserved it. Still it didn't help my emotional state and once he was gone I let the tears flow. I ran upstairs to our room and buried myself under the blankets on our bed. I needed to feel close to him and apparently this was the only way I was going to get it. I breathed in his lingering scent of sunshine and ocean and just sobbed until there were no tears left. After a few moments, I was able to calm down, but then the fear of him being out there hunting someone bad brought all the memories of Ricky and JB back to the forefront. I got out of bed and straightened out the blankets and headed back down stairs. I hadn't eaten and decided to fix some fresh fruit for a snack. I worried about Vincent and hated that I couldn't call Meg, I could use a friend right now. *
ReplyDeleteI stepped out the front door as Tyler came forward and we shook hands. "Hey Vincent! Good to see you're doing okay. I heard what happened with you and Ian. Sorry I wasn't here to help." I gave him a weak grin. No need to be sorry. We've both learned a very valuable lesson. Tyler nodded and looked at the door. I knew he could hear Chloe crying. Wolf hearing was a pain in the ass sometimes. She's going to be alright. It's just hard at times. Please just keep her safe and I'll be back as soon as I can. If shit hits the fan get her to Ian and Meghan's place. It's one of the safe houses we chose with the alpha. He nodded. "Will do. I'm in contact with Jasper and Rocky every 10 minutes. If we don't check in someone is sent to investigate. Slade made sure we had a system in place after what happened to Chloe and Meghan. I'm even in contact with Jackson. He's the alpha females guard. We know what to do." I nodded at him and relized Chloe had stopped crying and was now moving about downstairs. Great, I'm heading out. If the situation becomes more serious you will get a text. He nodded once then jumped over the porch railing to walk the perimeter. It didn't take long for me to get to the station. There were guards walking through town and I knew these were the ones that Beck and Slade trusted beyond any other. I parked, got out of my car, making my way into the building. As soon as Bernice saw me she yelled out. "It's about time you got here. Slade's been looking for you." I shook my head at the female as I walked up to her. I had to make sure my mate was safe before I left. She smirked as she looked me in the eyes. "From what I hear, you have been giving her a hard time about what happened. Things will go a lot better between you two once you forgive her." I opened my mouth to tell her to mind her own business but she held up her hand stopping me. "Don't you say it. She knows she was wrong and when I see her I'm going to tell her as much. Just like I'm going to tell Ian what I'm telling you. Just like when I see Megan's skinny tail, I'm going to give her a piece of my mind." I looked at her and had to laugh. When are you going to stay out of other people's business? "When they stop acting like fools. Now head in and see Slade. He's been looking for you." I shook my head as I turned and headed down to see what Slade needed before looking for Ian and Cole.
