* I snuck over the border of Xavier's property. I leaned against a tree and peaked around for any of his goons and felt a tingle go over my skin. The sisters had finally cast my body under a protection and invisibility spell and I was grateful for that. I needed to get inside the house and find my mate. The cost was clear and I ran across the grass and leaned against the side of the house. I closed my eyes and tried to blend into the shadows when I heard talking, then Josiah came into view walking with a guard. * We got my sister back and the other three won't stand a chance, now. *_ Sister?_ I frowned as the guard replied but his voice drifted off as they got further away. * So Xavier broke the mating? * Josiah huffed and said something I couldn't quite make out. Shit. Can he break that without the serum. Even then the party has to really want it to work. I groaned and cleared my mind, so I could find Sadie. If the mating fades, then we'd just have to remate. Either way she was legally my wife. I made my way around the side of the mansion and stopped in front of a rose trellis. There was a thorny rose bush running up the side. I looked up and grinned at the balcony doors opened above me. I gripped the trellis and quickly pulled myself up and climbed to the balcony. I silently swung myself up and could hear talking and then I looked inside and nearly crumpled as my heart was ripped from my chest. Sadie's mouth was moving in a sensual kiss against Xavier's. But then she pushed away suddenly screaming in agony. She fell to her knees. * The mating allergy! It burns. It burns. I thought you negated the mating..you lie to me Xavier. You lie.

* I watched the wolf as he sailed past me, knocking me down in the process. My staff clattered across the wood floor. The wolf was making a show of intimidating Xavier. I saw the air start to shimmer and realized what was happening. I scrambled across the floor when the power from his shift hit me and slung me out the balcony doors. I was free falling for what felt like forever. When I hit the ground, I hit hard, the back of my head striking the edge of the landscaping brick. Stars exploded in front of my eyes. I could hear fighting above me, and truly I didn't care. I hoped the wolf killed the gator. He was nothing but a pain in my ass. A shadow fell across me. Monique stood above me. * Yo soul is evil, Margaux. * I laughed, slowly gaining my feet. * You have no idea. * I laughed, the sound ugly to my ears. I could feel something sliding down the back of my neck. I reached for my sister and an electric shock slammed into me. I shrieked. * You were never stronger den me. * She sneered. * Let the panther out. She has no stake in dis. * I refused. * I like this body. I think I'll keep it. * Mongolia was behind me. * I don't dink so, sister. * White hot pain slammed between my shoulder blades. The scream that left my mouth startled even me. I felt the soul sucking pain as my bones snapped and popped and I started to fade. I could feel the host as she struggled to take over. Darkness exploded in my vision. *
ReplyDelete* I landed on all four paws and realized that I had shifted for the first time in over a decade. It took me a minute to get my bearings but once I did, I smelled Tanner. Without hesitation, I backed up and ran, leaping back up onto the broken balcony, and stalking through the doors. I could hear fighting and I crept down the hall. Xavier was using his tail as a swing bat. Tanner snarled, his hackles up as he did. On silent paws, I slipped inside of the room. I knew the second Tanner and Xavier smelled me because time stopped. My eyes met Tanner's seconds before I leapt at Xavier and grabbed his tail in my jaws. He whipped his body around, but he was too big to reach back and bite me. My connection to Tanner was distorted, but he knew what I was doing as he moved in for the kill. *

* I snapped my fangs together and snarled at Xavier. He had shifted as I'd taken him down and tossed me across the room, through the drywall. I snarled and got to my feet as Sadie in Panther form leaped into the room from the balcony. Xavier swung his massive alligator tail towards me. Sadie leaped and sank her claws into his leathery scaley skin. I let lose another howl and then leaped over them and landed on his big gigantic gator head. He roared as my paws came around and gripped him in the soft undercarriage of his mouth. I released my claws and tore into the soft flesh there. He growled out his pain and then I dug them in deeper, then I pulled tearing and ripping the flesh from bone. He roared as I continued to rip his head from his body. He caught all the way and then Sadie was there digging her claws into him as well and working as a team Xavier's fight was lost. We ripped his massive head from his body and his body fell limp with death on the floor. I stumbled back and shifted as Sadie did the same. We sat there on the floor staring at each other covered in Xavier's blood for a silent minute and then I crawled over to her and pulled her to me. * Say your her? Say your my mate? I need to know she won. Did you, Mo shíorghrá? Is it you?
ReplyDelete* His eyes searched mine, time suspended between us. * Yes. It's me. * I crawled closer and leaned up on my knees, wrapping my arms around Tanner. * God, Sadie, did he...I mean, I... * I shushed him, shaking my head. * No. I might have been spelled, but, I never gave in. You're it for me, Tanner. * Our lips were a breath away from each other. * You were kissing him. * He growled. I slid my fingers through his hair. * Not me, her. The voodoo priestess. * He hesitated and a throat cleared. Tanner leapt up, mindless of his nudity and blood spattered skin. I stood at his back as we faced Josiah. His face was twisted in anger as he looked upon Xaviers dead body. * What. Have. You. Done. * His fury started to build in the room. * I killed the son of a bitch who took my mate. My wife. My heart. And you're next! * Tanner leapt towards Josiah and I watched as he lifted his hand and chanted. * I'll eat your heart out, wolf. * Tanners back bowed and a light slammed off of his chest. A scream of anguish filled the room. It was mine. * No! * I snatched up a broken leg of a hundred year old chair and ran towards Tanner and Josiah. Tanner was gasping for air when I reached them. Josiahs eyes met mine a nano second before I drove the piece of wood into his heart. He sucked in a breath and Tanner hit the floor hard. I shoved my makeshift stake deeper. * No more living for you either. * I whispered as I watched his soul leave his eyes. He pitched forward and I jerked back, his body hitting the floor with a sickening thud. Immediately, I knelt by Tanner. * Oh my God, baby, are you alright? * I gave his face a little shake. * Tanner? * He nodded, rubbing his chest. My own hand covered his. * We've got to get out of here. * I insisted, pulling him to his feet. I startled when I saw her standing there, her eyes milky white. Sight of the past and future. * You will come wid us. * Her tone brooked no argument. I nodded and held on to Tanners arm. * Our cabin is not far. You can clean up and den we talk. * Again I agreed, following behind the woman who seemed blind but had no problem navigating her way around the house. Tanner was silent and I reached for his hand. He took mine as we made our way out of the old mansion and into the woods, following behind the three women that apparently had helped Tanner and myself. *
