* Gabriel Jericho had reluctantly agreed to go with me and talk. That meant that Gina-Leigh Jericho would be coming along, which was great. Except Caiden Bauer would be right beside her. I didn't like the sly cheetah. I felt like he had slid in and taken advantage of Gina when she was healing. I knew, deep down inside, that I was no better. And that was the crux of the issue: I wasn't Gina's mate. I had zero say over what she did or who she did it with. But I had grown attached to the fiery little wolf. Her smart ass mouth and brilliant military strategies had been sorely missed. That was the point of this meeting. The opposing Alpha wanted to meet with me, my beta as well as the enforcers I had in my pack. It seemed like a strange request seeing as how we had been blowing each other up left and right. Military strategy wasn't my strong suit. Losing my father so soon had thrown me into a tail spin. I wasn't prepared to lead a pack. I listened to Cantwell and Gina when she'd stepped in to help. But Donovan Wilson was a greedy, backstabbing son of a bitch. His missive to meet one that perplexed me greatly. I pulled my truck down the path to our headquarters. We'd mobilized back to home base just two weeks prior. No ground had been gained nor lost. The truck splashed through mud as I finally pulled up next to the building. I cut the engine and climbed out. Gabriel did the same and I watched as Caiden helped Gina out of the back seat. She wasnt steady on her feet and seeing him gently supporting her as she swayed had me hating myself even more. I'd done that to her. My stubbornness had gotten her shot and nearly killed. * Lets get this over with. * Gabe snapped as he marched by me. I envied him his arrogance. Gabriel Jericho had always been bad ass. He never wavered in the face of the enemy. Strength radiated from him. I lifted the access door and laid my palm on a sensor pad. It glowed green as it mapped my hand print. The doors open and we all walked through. Soldiers sat at computers, monitoring the maps, speaking into headsets to dictate locations. I stepped into the conference room that was currently my office. Gabe sat down, Gina and Caiden doing the same. "So. We're here. To what do we owe this visit?" Gabe asked. I slid a folder over to him, all surveillance and Wilson's meeting request included. Gabe opened it and started thumbing through it. Gina looked over his shoulder. I waited, silently while they looked over everything within the file. *

  1. * I read over the file and sighed as I reclined back taking my time flipping through each page. I could feel Quinn's eyes watching me as I took my time. Gabe cleared his throat..knowing that I was bating the so called alpha. Finally I looked up and met each set of eyes in the room. * I think it's all bullshit. I think he's planning something..some kind of retaliation. * I then looked directly at Quinn. * I think that if he's hated you this long. He's got to be plotting something. Could be he's coming directly at your pack or maybe he's got a new hard on for something he thinks you have here, but he's definitely not down for peace anytime soon. * I flipped the pages of the file closed and tossed it on the table. * You need to prepare, because way I see it.. War wasn't working, so he's got a new plan on how to take you out. We just don't know what that is yet. * Subconsciously..I reach over and take Gina's hand and rub her knuckles lovingly as I thought it through. * You have a mate, right? * He sighed heavily and nodded. * Yes..but she's in Wilson's pack. He won't let her....* He shook his head as he met Gina's eyes and then looked away, cutting off his words. * Are you sure she's your mate? * He looked back up abruptly at my question. * Yes...I mean the pull is there, so she has to be. Right? * I shrugged, cause I didn't give a damn as long as he stayed away from Gina. She's mine. I must have tensed because she squeezed my hand, reassurance in her grip. *

  2. * I squeezed Caiden's hand.
"Quinn, you know what I think." He nodded, his eyes meeting mine.
"You said to blow em sky high months ago." I nodded.
"I did. Wilson cannot be trusted. And this little love note, it's bullshit." I took the file from Caiden, seeing all of my own work involved. All of my own surveillance, all of my own intelligence. Maps where I plotted moves and their patterns. I swallowed, hating how easily I had been taken out of the game.
"I don't know what to do. I'm a shitty Alpha, okay? Is that what you want to hear, Jericho? I'm a shitty Alpha and an even shittier friend. But I need help." I set the file on the table.
"Quinn. You're not a shitty Alpha. You're fair. And you take care of your pack. So, your military intelligence isn't as strong as ours. That doesn't make you a bad Alpha." I didn't touch the shitty friend part, because it still hurt at how easily he had tossed me away.
"You defend my ability as Alpha, but agree on the friend part." It wasn't a question. My eyes met his.
"We both knew we weren't mates. And quite frankly, your supposed 'mate' isn't your mate either if you were capable of doing me, so I think you need to realize that, too. It hurt. I took three bullets for this regiment. All of this, in this file?" I picked it up as my temper rose. "Is my work. Night's of no sleep, days of spy missions. All of it, Quinn, is my life's work for two years. And in the space of three minutes all of it was for nothing. Sure, you got me stable and to the hospital. But after that, you turned your back on me and walked away. Threw me out of the army and your life like I was nothing more than garbage. And to sit here and see you still using my work, pisses me off." I slung the file across the table to Quinn, papers scattering out of it. Caiden touched my elbow.
"Why should we help such an ungrateful son of a bitch like you?" I asked, my eyes dead locked on Quinn's. Gabe hadn't said a word and Caiden's hand on my arm was keeping me from launching across the table and tearing Quinn's eyes out. My spine was fucked because of him. And he couldn't even have the decency to tell me why he did what he did. Silence reigned in the room as we all waited. Quinn sat up, no longer looking quite as relaxed. He was a good Alpha. Circumstances hadn't made it easy, and he would grow into the role if he could survive this turf ware, that is. He gathered the papers back into the file and stood up. I heard the whirr of the shredder turn on and the sound of the file going through the shredder. I leapt up.
"Quinn! What are you doing?" I pushed him aside and tried to grab the file out of the teeth of the machine. It jammed and Quinn grabbed my hand, cupping my elbows.
"Let it go, Gina." I watched as the file was chewed up and the shredder cut off.
"What the fuck is wrong with you!" I shouted, looking between him and the machine. *

  3. * I didn't answer right away because I didn't really know how to answer. Watching her with Caiden - and knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that she belonged to him - killed me. I had known she wasn't mine, but Gina Leigh Jericho was the type of female most men wanted a taste of. It was the challenge in everything she said, her boldness. And the flame for me was gone. "You were right." Her eyes met mine. "I shouldn't have left you in the hospital the way I did. I owed you an explanation. And that explanation was that I had nearly gotten you killed. I knew Jericho was going to be pissed. I took the cowards way out. And that's on me. It had nothing to do with you." I didn't exactly want to attempt to mend this bridge in front of her brother and potential mate, but it needed to be said. "It sure felt like it." She crossed her arms at her middle - a self protective gesture of hers. "And for that, I'm sorry. I guess part of me wanted to believe that we were just a fling and you were alright with that. But then you got shot. And I wasn't alright with it. I knew then I had to stop it - stop us - before it got any worse. And I did it cold turkey." Her face was impassive, but I could see the hurt there. She nodded and moved back to the table. She face Gabe. "So. What are we doing? We helping or going home?" I shook my head. "I didn't ask for you to stay and help. I asked for opinions." Gabe rolled his eyes. "You're dead either way at this point. If Wilson doesn't kill you, I will. Tell the fuck face you'll be at his meeting." Gabe stood up. "With the three of us at your back." I looked in Gabe's eyes and then Gina's. They were serious. Caiden nodded. "You heard the man. We'll be there."

* Once +Loretta Blackstone told me what she needed I got up and left. Julian handed me his car keys and +Takahiro Yanahi DPI followed me out of the conference room. I was on the verge of losing it, my baby sister was missing. Taken by a witch and I had no idea why they would even want her. The thought's going through my mind of what might be happening to her were dark. I feared for her. I hurried down the hall and burst through the front door of the police station. I needed fresh air and solitude, I knew I couldn't hold myself together much longer. * "Kimiko, yamero." {Kimiko, stop.} * I stopped, but refused to turn around, tears slid down my face and I was ashamed that I was so weak at this moment. Taka turned me gently and pulled me against his chest, slipping the car keys from my hand. Wrapping his arms around me, he let me cry. * "Watashitachiha kaiyo o mitsukerudeshou, watashi wa yakusoku shimasu." {We'll find Kaiyo, I promise."} * I wrapped my arms around his waist. His gentle voice, embrace and his scent helped to calm me. I looked into my mate's eyes. * Why would they want her, Taka? Do you think that Senichi could be behind this? * My mate seemed to think for a minute. * "You and I know Senichi best. We could guess his next move in any situation and act on it before he even had to say anything. He knows he's gonna have to do something that we would never consider. I'm not saying he is behind this, but I wouldn't be surprised if he is." * I nodded, I knew he was right. Taka kissed me. * "Let's get to the house and get what Miss Blackstone needs." * I slipped into the passenger side of Julian's car and tried to pull myself together as Taka drove us to the house. *

* Raechel Hadrian was finally sleeping as I quietly dressed and left the house. I had to deal with Mia before I dealt with the females of the pack. I was still furious, but everything with Jordan McCormick overshadowed it. I still needed to tell Mikaela Kieschnick. Maybe I'd call Damon Kieschnick first. Let him decide the best way to tell her. She'd taken to Jordan right off the bat and I think Jordan had loved Mik too. I kicked the truck engine over and rubbed my hands together. It was cold and the sky was just turning a bright orange in the eastern sky. I didn't relish the tasks ahead. I put the truck in gear and headed into town. We didn't have a large police department. It was a few offices for Slade Michaels and Cole Ross, the other enforcers were directed by them. Slade and I had talked about bringing Vincent Gaines on, but it hadn't gotten any further when we were called to help Bianca. Now that the females had pulled the stunt they did, he may not stick around long enough for me to offer him the position. We had eight holding cells, each one made with reinforced silver. They stayed empty most of the time with the exception of a drunk or two needing to sleep off their drink. I parked in the space designated for me and made my way inside. * Alpha. * Bernice ran the front desk and she greeted me with a smile. * Good morning, Bernice. * She stood up. * You look tired, sir. * She handed me the file on Mia. This was a small town, she knew why I was here. I flipped through the contents. * Its been a long two weeks. * I told her as I made sure everything was in order. * Who's running the morning shift? * I asked, closing the file. * Stretch and Monty. * They were relatively new trainees, but Slade and Cole had trained them well. * Thank you. * I nodded as I slipped past her. Stretch was working the radio system we had in place and I nodded to him as I made my way towards the basement and the holding cells. Monty guarded the door leading down. * Good morning, Alpha. * He opened the door for me. * Thank you, Monty. * He nodded in return. * Good luck with that one, Sir. * I headed down the stairs, the air growing colder. I stepped down the corridor and she was in the first cell to the left. I typed in the code and a small section of the silver bars opened, allowing me to step inside her cell. She sat up when they slammed closed. She smelled like day old booze and her make up was smeared. She stood up and made her way over to me. * Alpha Beck. * Her voice was anything but respectful. * I'd hoped you would come and see me so we could sort this misunderstanding out. * She stepped close enough to run her fingers up the arms of my jacket. She shivered. * Such big muscles. * Her eyes met mine. * Maybe we can work out a deal, hm? * Her fingertips grazed my neck and jaw and for the first time in my life, I wanted to throttle a female. I shoved the file folder between us. * For starters, seducing me will do nothing but get you killed. My mate would have your head. Secondly, we'd both suffer the mating rash. And last, I would rather be dragged behind a truck, over broken glass then continue to be this close to you. * Rage darkened her eyes. * You're a son of a bitch! * Her hand flew up to slap me and I caught her wrist. * I can be. Why don't we find out just how big of a one? * She jerked away from me. * I don't understand why you're so mad at me. Why I'm to blame. I didn't do anything wrong! * She sat on the bed in a huff. * So, you didn't steal drugs from Dr. Tukami? * She was silent. * And you didn't meet Jules and my mate to give them the drugs you didn't steal? * Her eyes snapped fire as they met mine. * Or, you did do all those things, but dont want to admit it. I find it difficult to believe that you did this for the females out of the kindness of your own heart. * I opened the file that I had. * You attempted to seduce the doctor, your boss and was fired for it. I see you lived here during O'Donnells reign of terror. Your mother left with some rogue shifter. You stayed behind with your father. * She moved from the bed. * I know my life's story. I dont need you narrating it. * She tried to snatch the folder from me. I didn't allow it. * And I dont need someone of your calibre in my pack. * That got her attention. * What do you mean? * I shrugged. * Exactly what I just said. I'm banishing you, Mia. * Tears filled her eyes. * Beck...I mean, Alpha, sir....please. * I steeled myself against her pleas. * I don't trust you. In fact, you attempted to seduce me, which means you will stop at nothing to get what you want. I have yet to determine what exactly that is. But its detrimental to my pack. And I will not allow it. * She was sobbing now. * I just wanted Julian. I just wanted him to love me! * I shook my head. * He doesn't feel the same, Mia. The last female like you caused a lot of hurt as well and she almost killed members of my pack. I cannot stand by and let this happen. I will not. You broke trust. And you crossed the line thinking you could seduce me. * She hit her knees. * Alpha, please! Give me another chance! I will stay away from Julian! I'll do anything, ANYTHING to make this right. Just please, don't banish me!! * I shook my head as I gave the signal to be let out. * You'll be escorted out tomorrow morning. You will have exactly two hours to pack and clear out your things. * She was still sobbing. * Where will I go? * I stepped out of the cell. * I don't know, Mia, nor do I care. But you won't be here. And I shouldn't have to tell you that if you attempt to come back to McGregor land, you'll be killed on the spot. * I slammed the bars closed. * I hope that you take this chance and become a better person. Perhaps find a pack that will accept you. * She hit the bars, screaming. * I don't need you or your fucking pack! I didn't act alone! And everyone knows that the only reason you won't banish the others is because of who they mated and your mate is one! * I growled. * You know nothing of what I will do. Don't push me, Mia. It's too easy for me to have you executed. And it'd be supported. * I left her screaming behind me as I made my way back upstairs. I was due to meet with Jules, Meghan and Chloe in an hour. I wanted to be done with this whole thing so I could move on. I had bigger issues to deal with and this was just pissing me off. I left Mias file for Cole to finish up and then headed to my office for round two. *

* I finished checking in at the front desk then sat down next to Caiden Bauer. I was nervous. I worried about what they would find today. I worried that Gabriel Jericho was going after Quinn Cooper. I just wanted to be tucked inside of Ama Maes bed and breakfast with Caiden. My leg bounced as anxiety pumped through my veins.
