* I pulled off the road and turned up a dirt path. I had saw a rocky stream cutting along the path as I went over the bridge into the state of Washington and I had decided to wade into it and get my feet wet. Dann hot summer days and my a.c. was acting up. Must need coolant again. Maybe it was time to upgrade my vehicle, but I liked driving this one since it had belonged to my father. I got out of the bronco and skirted around it a smile gracing my lips as I looked down off a small cliff at the gurgling water. I slowly climbed down and looked around at the scenery before me. It was beautiful here and I was for sure going to like it. I took off my shoes, rolled up my jeans to my knees, and stepped into the water. I stumbled with the strength of the current and knew there was a waterfall somewhere downstream. I kicked around in the water and enjoyed the coolness of the water as it rushed around my feet and splashed up over my calves. I sighed and got out of the water and slipped my shoes back into my feet. Playtime was over, but the sun hit something through the trees, and around the bend of water. Light reflected and I decided to check it out. I walked along the bank of the stream and gasped when I was a vehicle flipped over on it's side in the water. I honed in on my cheetah and rushed to the vehicle. The scent of death and decay was strong in the air and I knew it wasn't going to be good. *

* I looked inside and saw a couple still strapped in their seat belts, at least two days dead, but the summer heat had spread up the decaying process. * Awe man. * I pulled out my smartphone and noticed there wasn't much of a signal and I needed to get these people out of here. * I looked at the corpses again and sighed. * I'm gonna have to climb out of here so I can call for help. Y'all stay put...not that you're going anywhere. * I muttered the last part. Then I noticed a back pack in the backseat. I lifted it and noticed it had coloring books, crayons, an IPad mini, and a notebook with the name Kyle Paterson written on the cover in obvious kid handwriting. Then I noticed more things that told me there had been a child in this car. I rode up. * KYLE! KYLE WATERSON! * I hadn't saw any trace the way I'd come, so I headed further downstream, until I came to and old abandoned cabin. I skirted the side as I avoided the water. I tapped on the door. * KYLE! KYLE WATERSON! * No answer and I was about to give up and head back to my car, when I heard a whimper. * KYLE! Is that you? * I followed the direction it came from and saw a dirty little body huddled against a wall. I squatted. * Hey. * I said softly as I reached for him. He backed away scared. * Hey. You're going to be alright. I found your parents...I'm so sorry Kyle. Let me help you. We're like a mile from the reservation. I bet there's food and a doctor there who can check you out. We can also get help for your mom and dad. * He whimpered. * Th...they w..wouldn't wake u..up. * I swiped at tears slipping down my cheeks. * I know...I know, kiddo. I'm sorry you had to deal with this alone, but you're not alone anymore, okay? * He nodded and took my hand when I held it out. * I'm sorry, kid. I really am. Let's climb out of this gully and get back to my ride. We'll find someone to help. Come on. * We made our way back to my bronco and I shielded him from the wreckage as much as I could as we passed it. I boosted him as we climbed up the bank. I opened the passenger door and he climbed inside. I then rushed to get behind the wheel. I checked my phone again for service, but got nada.* Damn. * I winced at my cursing as I glanced over at the kid. * Well, Kyle. It's you and me. Let's go find someone to help. * I backed up and did a few back and forth, before I got turned around and headed straight for the reservation. *
