* I steadied the small the aircraft against an updraft of wind as I flew Gina-Leigh Jericho and Caiden Bauer towards Anchorage, Alaska. Caiden sat in the co-pilot seat and Gina sat in the back. She had been silent the whole flight so far - which was unlike Gina. I smiled when I thought about how excited Bronwyn Jericho had been to get rid of Catherine for awhile. Gillian would be going home soon and would need our mother's help. My mate had been downright giddy at the prospect. It felt odd not being apart of Bianca's search party, but Joel had insisted that I continue on with this flight plan. Gina had rescheduled once already and she needed to be checked out. She seemed to be in more pain lately. I had every intention of making a trip to Talkeetna and meeting with my good ol' buddy Quinn Cooper. The bastard. Caiden would stay with Gina no doubt, so I felt comfortable handling this piece of the business on my own. * Doing alright back there, Gina Leigh? * I asked, looking back at her in the small mirror. Her eyes met mine and I could see the apprehension in them. * I'm fine. * She'd been spending more time with Caiden. I sized him up as we flew, knowing that he was taken with my sister. And she seemed to be taken by him too if her silly little calf eyes were any indication. * She doesn't seem fine to me. * I muttered to Caiden. Gina cut her eyes at me. He smiled, his eyes traveling to my sister. I still didn't like it. I didn't know this guy and Gina had terrible taste in men. * I think she's nervous. * He responded. * I think she is about to crack both of your skulls for talking about her like she isn't here. * Her voice raised an octave at the end of that statement. * Better get back there and deal with that. * I gestured my head towards my sister. * The lava is heating at this point. * Caiden snickering as he unbuckled and moved back to Gina. *

* I climbed into the back and settled into the seat next to Gina. I met Gabe's eyes and knew he still didn't trust that I had Gina's best interest at heart. I tucked that away to deal with later and reached for Gina's hand. I threaded our fingers together and she smiled. Unable to help myself I leaned in and captured her lips in a firm but quick kiss. * What's wrong, baby? * She shrugged. * Just nerves, I guess. I'm worried about the pain I'm still suffering from my scars. They should be healing faster than they are. * I didn't think that was it at all, but I nodded and let it go for now. I rubbed her thigh and she leaned into me. I tugged on her and she laid her head on my shoulder. I pressed a kiss to the top of her head and knew that she'd tell me everything that was bothering her, when she was ready. It was fast, but I was falling hard and fast for this female and knew now that she was my mate. It was why I felt so drawn to her from the beginning. * When we get back. I wanna talk to you about US. * She rose up and met my eyes and nodded. * We're mates. You wanna finish it? * I nodded, but cupped her cheek. * But not until YOU are ready. First things first. You need closer in Alaska and to know what's going on with your wounds. I can wait as long as you need. * She pressed her mouth to mine and my heart soared. I deepened the kiss, and slid my tongue against hers and she melted against me. * I am so far gone for you..you have all the power to take me down..I love you. * I knew Gabe was eavesdropping, but I didn't care. I wanted everyone to know that Gina-Leigh Jericho was mine. * We hit a pocket of turbulence and the plane rocked. I moved away to fasten my seatbelt and met Gabe's eyes. He smirked and I shook my head. * How much longer until we land? * He looked at the longitude and Latitude numbers on his gage then looked back at us. * About 45 minutes to an hour. We're making good time. * I nodded and kept my fingers threaded through Gina's as I looked out the window at the clouds passing underneath us. *
ReplyDelete* Caiden had a way of calming me down like no other. My hand gripped his firmly, his taste on my tongue. I didn't want to wait. I knew deep down that we were meant to be. I'd never deny him anything. I prayed that +Quinn Cooper wouldn't know I was coming in. I couldn't deal with that or him. Despite everything, the rejection, and being tossed aside when I was no longer useful still hurt terribly. When I thought about all those nights where he knocked on my door at ungodly hours - and I didn't even have to hear his voice to know he'd been drinking - and I let him in, I cringed. The phone calls where he told me he still wanted me desperately made my stomach sick. I had been such an idiot. And while the impulsive side of me wanted to mate Caiden right now - hell, right here for all I cared - I knew I had to wait until I had dealt with the emotions that Quinn had wrecked. And I couldn't do that in the pain I was in. Caiden squeezed my hand and I looked down at them intertwined. His hands were strong. Steady. He was steady. And he deserved the best mate. And right now, that wasn't me. It hurt to admit it and I swallowed around tears. Soon though. Soon, I was going to be enough. And then I was taking him and making him mine. *
ReplyDelete* I asked for permission to land and it was granted relatively quick. We were fortunate that we had good airspace connections. * Hook your seat belts. * I instructed the two in the back. I knew Gina was nervous and I really couldn't blame her. I would like to sit down with her doctor and find out just how severe the injuries had been. If these packs were using green guns - which they had to be for the bullets to matter - than that could explain the slow healing process. Especially if her wounds were as severe as I thought. Not that Gina has said that. She was evasive and spent her entire life equivocating. Avoidance should have been her middle name. I landed smoothly and heard her let out a breath once the plane taxied to a complete stop. Runway attendants were there, opening the door and sliding down the stairs. * Good morning, Mr. Jericho. Mr. Kieschnick said we could expect you. * I nodded as I let Gina disembark first. * We have the rental truck waiting for you in lot A. * I thanked them and shook their hands as I finally stepped onto the tarmac. * Thank you, gentlemen. * I tipped them despite their arguments for me not to. * We will top off all fluids and make sure everything is in working order upon your return. * I thanked them again and we made our way into the airport building. Caiden supported Gina's elbow as we walked. I had to admit, I felt better about him having her back when I wasn't around. I guess that was as close as he would get to my approval anytime soon. * Mom asked me to take care of some thing for her while I was here. I may do it while you are your appointment. * I told Gina as we found our rental truck. She turned before I could open the drivers side door. * Wait. No. I wanted you to be there too. * I knew for a minute that wasn't exactly true. * Gina. Mom asked me to. * She nodded. * Okay, then we can do it together. After my appointment. * I looked at Caiden. * No, I need to do this. I will drop you and Caiden at your appointment and then take care of Mom's errands and pick you up after. It won't take long. * She was stubbornly shaking her head. She knew where I was headed. * I do not want you to do that. * I shrugged. * Too bad, baby cakes. Let's go. You've got an appointment to get to and I made damn good time flying us here. Get in the truck. Now. * We had a stare off before she relented and got in the truck. Caiden nodded in understanding and we made our way to the hospital. *
